1970 Bucket Seats Re-Do -Help On Cover / Padding Selection
« on: September 09, 2017 - 11:55:42 AM »
OK, found some front seat cores for my 1970 Resto/AAR Clone.  The issue I have is I need to to buy the foam and the covers for both front and back.  I looked on Legendary and well - My skirt is not low enough when I work the corner to pay those prices.  I looked on Ebay and found the following:

1.  Front Foam:  http://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-Barracuda-Gran-Coupe-Front-Bucket-Seat-Buns-Foam-Cushion-Pair-PUI-New/330941713276?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

and

2.  Front Covers:  http://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-Barracuda-Front-Seat-Covers-Upholstery-PUI-New/252493147706?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=551381873887&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

I was looking for a matched front/rear set but seems the currently not available.  Question I pose, are the PUI OK, are the items I selected fair, and has anyone ever used them.  Or do you have other suggestions:  and whats the difference between Grand Coup foam and regular AAR foam

Thanks -

Cheap Skate.... (LOL) I haven't personally used the PUI covers however a friend of mine did; they seem ok and they did fit well. I don't think they are as good as Legendary but then again they are cheaper. I don't know much about the foam, however I have ordered from that company a number of times and they always did me right; decent prices and quick delivery.

70 - As always, what I was looking for.  Question, what is the difference between Grand Coupe and AAR or even basic seats - if anything

Look at how the foam is cut, the contours of the upholstery isn't even close to matching the foam... Gran Coupe has Leather Std & cloth as a reduced cost option... AAR & Std Cuda has vinyl seats..

1 Wild R/T  - Thanks!, and I will probably have to do some hemming and just bite the bullet from Legendary, I see your point on the lowers seating areas.  I looked over at Hamtrack Registration, here is what I found - with pictures!

What about these, found better pictures:

A.  http://www.jegs.com/i/PUI/233/BUN701KABEU/10002/-1

or

B:  http://www.jegs.com/i/PUI/233/BUN701KAEU/10002/-1

Which one?

And I thought I was going to retire one day

Those PUI foams look good to me, but I've only worked with Legendary foams and covers.  You've probably figured out that the leather seat covers get a different foam than the standard vinyl seat covers do.  The foam with the parallel straight lines are for leather seats.  Our Cuda came from the factory with the optional leather seats so we recovered the seats with the same, so I'm including a photo so you can see the difference.
Be advised that if you go with the leather (once you've adjusted your hem), you need to cut another groove in the foam across the front to accomodate a (wire) casing and row of buttons.  Neither the PUI or Legendary foams come with that slot.

I had my seats redone using Legendary foam and vinyl covers. Lady that did the work was impressed with the quality. She said it took two people to pull the covers over the foam due to the tight fit. They look as good if not better than factory.

I seriously worked up a sweat trying to pull the covers over the foam.  I've heard since that you should put a thin plastic bag (like from the dry cleaner) over the foam before you try pulling on the cover to get it over the foam.
