Wiper blade pressure

I have a 70 barracuda that has a deep scratch in the windshield, caused by the wiper blade. Does the pressure on the blades need to be adjusted? Or was the scratch caused by worn wiper blades? Do I need to replace the wiper arms?  Thanks

My guess would be they were run when the blades were shot. Maybe a previous owner? The blades on these cars sun rot quickly when left out in the elements.

I have same issue, definitely caused by someone in the past running the wipers when the blades where shot.
Once the rubber deteriorates, it peels away and the metal just grinds away at the glass.

I think both of you are correct. I was just wondering if there was too much pressure on the blades. Thanks

Had a similar problem. The po operated the wipers with the articulating arm on the driver's side bent causing the scratch. Take a look at the arm as well as the blades.

The wide stainless trim at the base of the windshield has a large groove worn in it from that arm on my car. I sanded it out when I rebuilt the car but I ran into a rain storm and had to use my wipers.  The scratch came back.  I wonder if I can just bend that arm a little?  I thought maybe there was a worn bushing somewhere causing it.

I took my driver's side arm off, wrapped it in a towel & put it in a vise. I bent the arm, trial & error method and put it back. (Not the articulating arm just the main arm) Cleared the stainless trim but I had to sand  the trim too. The windshield scratch is too deep to fix but it's low in my view and I'm going to leave it alone for now till I can replace my windshield. The po must have operated it that way for a while to scratch it that bad.
