electric trunk release

    electric trunk release

    I am seeing these units around and it appears they will replace the E-body mechanical trunk latch. However, I dont want to lose my key release functionality. Am told that a modified release rod would have to be fashioned to do this. Anyone been-there, done-that?  Am looking for details

    mine was out of a 86 Lebaron- fit right up and the slot was the same place.

    is the key in the center of the tail panel on a Chally? The Cuda is offset to the passenger side and a long rod is used to transfer actuation from the key cylinder to the latch release

    several on Ebay - fortunately for you the Challenger will prob be a direct replacement. The Cuda on the other hand I believe will require a modified rod. If anyone has details on this please speak up. I hate reinventing the wheel if somone else has done this

    duh- sorry Mike- wasn't thinking of the offset in the Cuda line!!!!!

    its okay, I'm probably gonna go for it anyway. its a cool option that I dont think many (if any) Ebody's came with.

    I would feel better if I knew exactly what needed to be done before hand.

    Sure is a great modern upgrade to have.
    ESPEACIALLY if you keep a fire extinguisher in the trunk rather than near the console/passenger/backseat.  :'(

    I added an electric trunk opener a long time ago, it's a nice feature.  I used a GM switch, it looks much better than the Mopar.
