Headline Install

I'm about to put the headliner in my 70 Cuda. There are 5 rods but it was all out of the car when I got it. Do certain rods goin certain spots and are there clips that go on the rods where they hookin the sides of the roof. I don't have a clue Thanks for any heilp

Yes to both questions. The clips are sort of triangular shaped pockets that clip into the side of the roof line. I can take a couple photos if that helps. Some of the rods are shorter. You can buy the clips. I'd recommend you get the clips and install them first, then put all the rods in to figure out which ones need to go where. It shouldn't be that bad if you have all the parts.

Thanks Beekeeper is there an insulation pad that goes on the roof . And where would I get the clips,would they have them at Roseville Moparts Thanks Again

I found new sets on eBay. I've bought kits from this seller before. Nice products at great prices. I'm sure lots of Mopar vendors sell them though.

There is jute padding that is glued to the roof. You can buy this stuff by the yard in various thicknesses at many fabric stores for a fraction of the cost of what a restoration supplier would charge. You can mail order it as well in rolls.

When you glue it in, I recommend a spray by 3M called yellow super trim adhesive. They come in numbers with the higher number being higher adhesive bond. Just cut pad to fit between metal ribbing, spray both the roof and the pad separate and allow to dry a few minutes, then stick in place. That stuff is amazing. I use it on lots of stuff and it is strong like construction adhesive. Just make sure of placement before you stick in place.

I'm getting ready to put my headliner in also.  I have some peel and stick sound deadner/heat barrier left over.  Anyone use that instead of the pad?

I have not but I've wondered about using it myself. On floors, I like to put that stuff in to decrease rattling and as a heat barrier, then I put a heavy matting over it for added sound insulation. I've wondered how it might work on a roof. My guess is the peel and stick would help reduce the tinny sound inside. You could always use peel and stick and then glue some light weight padding on top for added sound control.

The five rods are color coded...small amount of paint on the ends of each one.   The service manual will tell you which color goes in the front most, second..etc..   Hopefully your paint hasnt worn off.

I'm getting ready to put my headliner in also.  I have some peel and stick sound deadner/heat barrier left over.  Anyone use that instead of the pad?

I did both the sound deadener and then glued the jute pad onto it.  Very happy with the result.

Yes. Same with rear window.

I had a guy who specializes in interiors put my headliner in and when I mentioned that I was thinking of installing some of the sticky sound deadener on the inner roof he said "DON'T do it!" He said he'd seen it done and the tendency was for the heat generated on a roof skin, especially in a dark coloured car, to cause the glue to let go eventually, with the result being that the insulation fell off and was now hanging in the headliner. Needless to say, mine has no stick on deadener in it. Just my
