Torsion Bar Adjuster Removal
« on: November 01, 2017 - 09:24:31 AM »
Whats it take to remove the torsion bar adjusters from the lower control arm?  Do you have to remove the lower control arm or will it simply come out with the suspension in the air and the adjuster bolt backed all the way out?   70 Cuda btw.

I don't think you have to remove the lower control arm.

The torsion bar adjuster plates have slots milled in each end to 'sit' in the LCA, and the LCA cut-outs are just large enough for the plates to exit/install through, as long as the bolt is removed like 1-Wild-RT states...

Just make sure you 'unload' the suspension by jacking the car up (putting jackstands under the frame for safety) before trying to remove the bolts! If they strip and are under load, they can become dangerous shrapnel, with you right there in the vicinity... The bolts have a tendency to rust solid, making it difficult at best to remove.. plan on soaking the bolts with penetrating oil well ahead of schedule (I sprayed mine for a week before trying to remove, and still ended up having to torch one of the bolts off...

Clearly you don't live where I live.... I've never had one rusted, they always unscrew easily.... Probably snows where you live too.....  Now where's that poking the bear icon.... :roflsmiley:

Clearly, 1-Wild-RT!!!
 :poopoke:

That's as close as we can come here...

Yeah, we get lots of snow here along lakeshore... and lots of salt to clear the roads... not (m)any classics around here that haven't had major rust issues requiring lots of sheet metal and rail repair/replacements...

Never-seize is mandatory coating for most threaded fasteners around here...

I've only seen one other place in the world that had worse rusting environment... Mauritania, believe it or not! The desert heat creates on-shore breeze that carries the humid Atlantic air in along the shore, and the salt condenses out onto everything!
