Question about rear end
« on: July 10, 2005 - 02:02:44 PM »
ok hears the story. i swapped a 360 into my /6 challenger but left my 8 1/4 rear end in. i drove like 3 months and then bam!! the rear end is blown. i figured it was going to happen. so im looking for a 8 3/4 from a challenger or from a b body cuz everone says that b bodys work great on challengers cuz it lengthens the axle width. so this guy sends me a pic of one he was seling drum to drum of a b body. here it is. tell me what u guys think. he wants a 100 bucks for it.

I woud buy it for a hundred bucks. It looks complete and even looks like it has the larger drums. If the gears arent what you're looking for, just remember you can always switch out the centersection at a later date. Used suregrip centersections usually go for 250-350 on ebay......

You do have something backwards though. The B-Body rear axle is actually shorter than the E-Body.

The 71-74 B body rearends are actually wider so you want to make sure what you are getting. 62 through 70 B body flange to flange are about 55" while the later ones are about 57-3/4", all E bodies are 56-1/2". The spring purches on the early B is 55" while the E body purches are at 46". Get some measurements and you can see what you are dealing with.
