73 Challenger door glass/hardware
« on: January 15, 2018 - 04:59:37 AM »
Does anyone have a good detailed picture on the glass hardware and track mounting parts list? I have the 1973 body service manual but cant figure out how and where new wear parts go in the glass. I had a shop working on my car and they lost/sold off my original glass so Im starting with no reference. The screw/bolt which holds upper stop into glass, what size or where to find? Mounting bolts for track assembly etc.
Thanks
Trevor

Did you resolve your issue?  I'm finishing up my door glass.  I have some pictures for a 1973 but they may not be what you are looking for.  I would contact Dave or Jonathon at Roseville Moparts.  They should have just about everything you need.  There are part kits out there for a 1972 but if there are individual items then you may have to use the 1972 options.

i just finished the door/quarter glass on my Cuda; I used the 73 manuals as well as a 70 manual for reference. I will say that the 73 manual is not correct as it calls for a bracket in the quarter windows that was/is not used on a 73. We followed the 73 manual pretty much exactly (once we figured out the one bracket didn't exist) and it went pretty well. I will say this is really a 2 person job; I am sure one person could do it but it would be painful.
Current Mopar
70 Challenger RT 440-6 EFI, 73 Cuda 416-6 EFI
05 Hemi Durango, 01 Ram 4x4, 14 Ram 2500 4X4, 10 PCP Challenger 6 spd RT, 01 Viper GTS ACR, 52 B3B w/330 Desoto Hemi, 70 Hemi RR (under const)
Past Mopars
9 x Challengers. AAR Cuda, 4 RR, 2 GTX, 4 Chargers, etc... (too many to list)

Nope still have not got it figured out. Im outside the US so its still sitting. Have contacted Dave at Roseville very helpful but canhas pictures I already have. Major problem I have had is that I didnt take the car apart and the shop who started the work lost parts and hardware that I cannot find.

Ok, I was in the same situation as you.  I pretty much used the service manual to figure this out as well.  It certainly was frustrating and best done with a second person to hold things in place. Unfortunately my pictures aren't the best for the door glass but I'll try to explain and can get more pictures from the installed units.  My car is a 1973 Barracuda. I can probably try to explain the pictures you have.

The quarter glass has one "large" glide assembly and a regulator.  The glide assembly has a single plastic slide that connects to the glass.  There is also a square white plastic glide that attaches to one end of the regulator that slides in the horizontal fixed metal guide attached to the inner structure. There is a red plastic up stop (plug like piece) held into the glass by pressure from the inserted screw. Finally, there is a black rubber stop that is held onto the track at the bottom within a screw on assembly.  This assembly has two screws securing it to the guide.

I know that my descriptions may not be ideal but if you look on E-bay you may see some completed NOS items and it will make more sense. The door glass has far more wear parts so I'll try and gather more pictures.

Here's a picture of the passenger side glass.  It is missing one plastic glide. Note the black glide.  There are two white up stops, one on the front and back.

Sorry the glide is not black it is white.  Some aftermarket replacements are black as is the quarter glass.  Here is a full assembly of that glide.  There are two per glass.  This was a tricky piece for me when I installed it INCORRECTLY on the glass and it shattered :swear: Long story but I can certainly tell you what not to do  :roflsmiley:

You can't see it in the picture but there is a felted plastic piece that inserts in the metal guide attached to that metal plate.  This guide inserts into the mounted vertical rail in the rear of the door.  The felt keeps the metal from rattling and a tighter tolerance when the window travels up and down.  I've not seen these for sale.  I ended up using a piece of self adhesive sound deadening material

Thanks these help a lot. The one piece Im still need is the screw that hold the stop into the glass. I purchased the window guide kit (1973-1974 door glass picture) but cant find anything on the screw that holds it onto the glass. Dont want to break the glass by using too big or have stop fall out using too small. And where do the little rubber spacers go?

The screw is a flat philips screw head.  I'll try to get a picture of one.  I had a stop that was loose because of a broken figure.  I placed a rubber washer over the hole and then inserted the stop.  It was enough to provide a better grab by the stop through the glass.

The rubber spacer is inserted in the open hole that will exist in the metal shield. It is there for when you insert the connecting screw from the horizontal lift guide to the glass. It's a pain when you are trying to assemble the door glass but I think necessary to prevent a pressure point on the glass as the guide rotates upon lifting. This is the same spot I put a rubber washer instead of a metal washer between the metal horizontal lift and glass so that it does not rub.

A few more pictures for you.  As for the screw, you can use an alternate sheet metal screw or if you wish to stay OEM, I've found RT Specialties to have quite a bit of the hardware items.

Here are some internal pictures of the driver side installed door glass.

I found out that there are two mounting holes for the regulator; one for electric windows, one for manual.  I learned the hard way. :smilielol:

I hope that this helps.  I know that there are details you can't see like the up stop spring loaded wedge in the rear vertical guide. You can barely see it in the picture.

Thanks a lot. These should be the last pieces to getting the car finished and back on the road.

Okay, good luck.  Do you have a restoration thread?  I'd like to see pictures of your project.
