    Kframe degrease

    Anyone have a good product or recommendations for degreasing the kframe. After a ton of elbow grease and a couple types of degreaser including ‘grime reaper’ by chemical guys, and full media blast it looks dam good except there’s grease hidden in the seams and when I start to surface prep for painting, the Black ‘shmootch’ starts oozing out of the crevices. It’s like I have no choice but to have it boiled in acid. Thanks in advance!

    Castrol Super Clean.....  There are other Purple degreasers, they aren't the same.... Not even close... :2cents:

    Thanks, I’ll check it out! full soke or spray on? I even pressure blasted with 160 degree water.  I’m this close to bringing it To the machine shop and having it donzo. Must have 20 hours into prepping a cleaning already...  :crying:

    Stand it on end, spray, let soak, five minutes later spray, repeat a few times....  Then rinse, hot water ids best but shouldn't be needed, let dry some, turn 90 degrees repeat....

    If its small areas, get a spray can of carb cleaner.

    You could also try the old favourite- Easy Off oven cleaner. It works well on grease, but wear protective gear as it bites like a SOB if it gets on you. After hot flushing it, I'd blow dry it and then take some good brake cleaner with the schnozzle and squirt it into those oozing seams and see if any more comes out. We used to make an extension for our blow guns out of 1/8" copper line and you can put a 18" piece on and get right into those seams as the line will bend to accommodate that. You've also got to ask yourself where's the beef after spending 20+ hrs screwing with a K frame. Have fun!  :cheers:

    Take it to the car wash, select "engine degreaser" ad hose it off, dry it and you are off to the races..

    I tried everything from engine degreaser, gasoline, simply green and even a benzene torch  :bigsmile:.  I was still seeing the ooze come from welds an I simply could not get a could clean internally.  In the end, I did a phosphoric acid wash and then used a Pre-paint product from Eastwood and it still found some gunk.  I now use the pre-paint product on nearly everything, including undercoating residue. It can be purchased in an aerosol and a capped bottle.

    All good advice. Even torching the dam thing  :roflsmiley:

    I ended up finding a radiator shop that still had a hot tank. Came back pretty good. I pressure washed it and media blasted it. It’s all set for primer now!
