T/A or AAR hood hinge support rod
« on: February 15, 2018 - 11:28:14 PM »
Felt a little creative today and made T/A hood hinge support rods. Drilled 5/16" holes 8-1/4" apart in flat bar stock. Used socket/button head bolts. The hood hinges have factory holes in them that are perfect for the support rods to hold the hood up. See pic. One rod is installed and one is laying on the fender. The springs were not removed while the rods were trial fitted. Using the rods eliminates the need for hood springs and worrying about the fiberglass hood bowing from the factory spring tension. I have a T/A hood which will be installed soon.

Nice job, I made mine using a turn buckle and heat shrinked it.

Great idea.  I too am using adapted turn buckle hooks but plan to upgrade for a car show. I'd love to upgrade into those shock style hinges (name?) but I can't wrap my head around that cost.

If the billet hinges with gas shocks eliminated bowing of the Fiberglass hood I would buy them. I have only seen them used with R/T steel hoods. Here is a pic from the Rio Vista Car Show of billet hinges on a Cuda.
