Steering Box Flexing Normal or Not.
« on: April 15, 2018 - 10:16:29 AM »
Sorry but dumb question, my power steering hose sprung a massive leak when you would turn the wheels to lock to lock position. So replaced the hose all is good to go, but I noticed as after the install had the wife turn the wheel lock to lock to check to see if the leak was fixed (it was). But the steering box was flexing back and forth as she was turning the steering wheel. My question is it normal for the box to flex that much. I was surprised how much flex was it the box going through the turning cycle. Any input on this.

Normal? No... I think you'll find it's not the box but the K member that flex... Possibly the bolts mounting the box aren't tight....  The K member may need reinforcement, also adding a Firm Feel lower support bearing can help quite a bit... See link below...
