    73 Challenger oil water tank gauge....

    hello guys...

    my Challenger drives me a little crazy...  all three  gauges. fuel oil-pressure and water temperature show about 1/4 less than they should show.... i.e. full fuel tank shows 3/4 on the gauge... coolant temperature shows just a little above   "C" with 185 deg F on the thermostat housing...  and the Oil pressure gauge stays a little below the middle - with an oil pressure of around 60 PSI while driving o the highway..

    I thought it was the Voltage Regulator..so I changed the original one for a "new high tech "  regulator....  same thing. But now the gauges work way slower than before....  so the regulator wasn't´ the "bad guy "..
    Any ideas ?

    I ve heard about the possibility to "adjust" the gauges...  but I don't have any Idea how to do this ....

    hope someone kicks in, to give me a real god advise

    I have no idea if they can be adjusted, but if they can it will take a specialist I would think. That said, they were never all that accurate to begin with. Usually the fuel level issue is a problem with the sending unit, however since all of your gauges are affected, it sounds like you have a wiring problem, more specifically a contact issue or a grounding issue. I'd start with cleaning everything and ensuring you have a good ground.

    I have always run after market gauges for oil, water and volts because of this issue.

    I had aftermarket gauges from Autometer installed....  that's the reason I know about the difference between the OEM gauge and the reality...  but I what to go back to 100% original :)

    The wiring....  o.k. I will check everything. Even the ground Issue perhaps the is a little gremlin. ??  The strange thing is that the new electronic regulator is very very slow.. the markers are moving like a turtle. With the old OEM the marker came on very quick.... but with the same difference in showing the oil pressure / fuel tank and water temp.

    Alot of people dont like the electronic regulators. I have one in my Challenger but dont see the problem you are describing. Perhaps try and get a new replacement regulator (not an electronic, just a replacement) and see how that works.

    so based on what you are saying, you are not going to have any other gauges than the factory ones? I just couldn't do that bc I dont trust the factory gauges. The problem is that there is no where after market gauges look good and "cutting" them in isn't really an option. Because of this issue, I decided to make a gauge cluster for my Challenger. My thought was to make it look like the factory cassette player and I think it turned out well and looks at home in the car.
