     Hey guys, I’m going through my 70 Challenger finally. It’s a 318 All stock and original except for an intake, fourr barrel. and cam.   It’s just a cruiser with a little more pep then stock.  One of these years I’ll get around to building a 340 for it but that’s going to be a while.

     I need some advice on which parts the bike. Budget is a concern. 

     Definitely needs new motor mounts  as the motor flops around a bit. Looking at Summit I find it a bit confusing. What are good ones I can buy?  I need a transmission mount as well. I tried to do a burn out once but the transmission slapped into the floor.

     The timing chain has about a half inch of play.  I’m pretty shocked that it’s actually still on there and has not jump to a tooth.  What is a good one that’s Better than stock but not too much money?

     The harmonic balance or is a bit wobbly so I’m replacing that as well. Unless anybody has a recommendation I’m just going to go with an oem type.

    You should be able to get motor and trans mounts from about anywhere to include your local auto parts store. If possible, remove what you have and go local and make sure they are the same. Other than that, Id buy mounts from Mopar specific companies as you have a better chance to get the right part. Contact Dave at Roseville Moparts; not only is the company Mopar specific, it is a Chrysler dealership, so you can get exactly what you need.

    "floppy harmonic balancer"???? thats not good nor safe. OEM is fine.

    Timing chain, again local parts store will work fine. You can go double roller but in reality you don't need to for what you have and especially since you are planning to build another engine for it later.

    Need to find a local salvage yard and pick up either a Magnum engine or even better a 5.7 and drop it in.

     Thanks for the advice! I’ll just head up Napa and see what I can get from those guys. Yeah I thought about getting a motor from the junkyard, I have a 340 block and crank to build one of these years.  Maybe a 440!

    I just did a quick refresh of my 318 that I overhauled 20 years ago.  Mounts, timing chain, etc.   Rock Auto had it all at good prices and now problems.  I like the local Mom & Pop parts stores, but they are becoming few and far between.  AZ, O'Reilly's and such are okay in a pinch, but Rock Auto is usually cheaper, even with freight.
