I imagine the commercials were made pretty early on, perhaps before release of the car to the public. It appears that Dodge had not yet settled on the name "slapstick", however "speed gate racing shifter" is pretty long (although it does sound pretty cool).
Notice the car is in neutral when they show the shifter in the commercial. I suppose to show the whole thing or perhaps it was a mock up.
