A body Barracuda
« on: October 30, 2018 - 05:45:34 PM »
Are there any A body guys here, I know we are a minority but I am restarting my rotisserie restoration after 15 years in storage. Going to have a ton of questions about where to find parts etc. been out of the car scene since 2003.

I had a 68 in high school that a friend now owns. I am building myself a new one for ol times sake.

Thank you for the forum.

Hey Randy, how are things? What made you decide to go with a 727 behind that 6.1? I am in the very beginning stages of planning my 68 and want to go with a 5.7 but am not real sure about the trans. I have the 904 that is in the car but was thinking about with a 727 or A518.

Lifes good Mike! Looks like you have been busy.  :working:
Slowed progress on the 69.  :money: Home improvements and the Challenger took a bite out of funding the Barracuda.  :violin:
It's all good though. Little by little.

My plan is for a Gear Vendors OD behind the Full Manual Reverse Vavlve Body 727. A518 may be a good choice for Auto with OD. I already had my mind made up for full manual reverse valve body.
I had Pat Blase (Torqflite Patty) build our 727 to basically Hemi specs. Chrysler Stall convertor. I chose not to do a 4 or 5 speed auto because they require extra cutting and welding the floor and crossmember. Full auto requires some kind of kickdown. Also not sure how they would work with trying to use factory console and shifter. 727 fits with no mods! I already have the console, shifter, linkage, 727, torque converter. Need to get the GV and a shortened drive shaft.
GV OD .78 will give a 3.55 final drive of 2.76
Same size tires as the cuda 4speed and 3.55 gears I turn ~3000RPM at 60MPH
x.78=2340  a little higher with TC slip... not sure how much slip there is exactly from the TC it is not a lockup, don't know if a lockup is even an option with my setup.

It's for my son, he wanted a stick (Would be his first... I thought not this time)
I had manual Auto with reverse valve body in my 69 and 68 fastbacks.  :2thumbs: Fun to drive. Never lost a race.  :burnout:

If I were building it for me it would be hard not to go with a T56 Magnum 6 speed double OD. rooh rooh rooh!
Would like a GV OD in the cuda but I would consider cutting the floor for a T56 Magnum...

Randy,

Thanks for the information, I am really trying to figure out which way to go with the trans. Of course I am a long way off on it, still have to finish he 73... The car will be essentially a daily driver, for me, perhaps my wife and perhaps my son (all a sudden the Gen II Barracuda is his favorite..., didn't think he had an interest). I do not want to go full resto on this if I can help it, but it does need a lot of work. I know that NAG1 trans that comes with a 5.7 will require a lot of surgery to the floor which I am not afraid of, but I do want to use the console and floor shifter as well.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread....
