Keep or Change White Vinyl Top and White Interior?
« on: November 04, 2018 - 06:40:58 PM »
I have a 1973 Dodge Challenger with B3 Super Blue color and white vinyl top and white interior.

She's getting painted now but I'm debating on whether to keep the white vinyl top and white interior???

It came from the factory with white so it would be nice to keep it all original but since I'm going to redo it anyway, now's my chance to change it to a black vinyl top and black interior.

I think it'll be easier to keep clean and give a different look.

Does anyone have pictures or feedback to help solidify my decision?  Thanks!

I’ve asked that exact question and everyone seems to agree that white looks awesome. Looking back I can’t explain why I even asked because I hate white. White strips look great on a black car but that’s about as far as I can go. Someday after I retire, I’m going to cash in a chunk of my 401k money and buy me a finished 71 Cuda. When I do, I will shy away from any car that has white on it unless the price is so cheap that it leaves me cash to pay for it being redone. I think black would look good outside and for interior, black or blue.

I had a 74 Challenger that was originally green with a white top and white interior. I painted the car hemi orange and left the top and interior white; initially I thoughts I would hate it but I came to really like it as it made the car look "classy". My current 70 Challenger has a black top and black interior (also hemi orange) and when I look at pictures of the two of them, the 70 looks meaner, more "business" orientated. I don't mean to imply I prefer the black over the white, I cannot say I do, they are just different.

You have to decide what look works for you, but I will say that white top cars are not nearly as common as black (IMO)

White is AWESOME!  I would rather have white than black any day unless it is a black car.  Although I have seen a couple black cars with white interiors and they still look pretty good!

Thanks for your input.  It seems there is an even mix of people with different preferences.  How cool to have two cars with different colored tops.  But I only have one so I need to do what works best for me.  I don't want to have to redo it again.  Keep your comments coming.  I really appreciate all your feedback.  Thanks.

Well you could a half and half version.... LOL JK. Its your car, make it how you like it. I will say that white does have the cleaning issue (as in keeping it clean), but White is cooler than black (temp wise).

I vote for changing it!  That's what I did.  Mine was orange with white top / white interior.  It didn't scream "hot rod" to me, so I changed it.

Maybe growing up and buying/driving my '71 Challenger in Las Vegas impacted my opinions; as much as I love black cars, and am ok with black interiors, its the recipe for a blast furnace in Las Vegas summers.  Even with A/C.

And I think the H6XW black and white interior (white seats, door and quarter panels, headliner, black dash, kick panels, carpet, rear deck) is an awesome combo for most exterior colors (mine was GF3 originally but painted white by its previous owner and the interior worked for both of them).

Its your car, do what makes you happy.  Mine is staying H6XW inside, and 98% certain white on the outside with bodyside black insert moldings that most get rid of.

This is always an interesting question.  I love white VT tops and interiors as a contrast to darker paint colors.  IE: blue, black, red, green and purple, although not so with the lighter colors of orange, yellow or pink, etc.  It comes down to contrast and complementing colors.  There is also the option of a black top with a white interior which again works well with the darker paint colors.  Black tends to look more aggressive versus the light hearted white, so what image do you want to project with your car?

Keep it original.  Its rare.
I changed our AAR from Ivy Green to Moulin Rouge.  It got us a lot of trophy's. But I sometimes regret changing the color..........

Love my white interior, about the only thing left original on my car is the color combo - EV2 Tor-Red with white. As far as keeping it clean it`s not hard unless it`s your daily driver and you are a grease monkey or something.
