72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

wonder what the cause was?  Maybe just squeezing 750hp out of an LS engine with
200,000 miles on it?

Turbos, stupid amounts of boost and hypereutectic pistons is not a recipe for longevity and when you add in a "drive it like you stole it" mentality, $hit happens!  :nono:

Plus about every bolt in the reciprocating short block was probably strethched to the hilt. Would have happened sooner
I suspect, if not for LS engines having 6-bolt main caps.

I think the biggest issue was Hyperutectic pistons & ring gap...... Adding boost put enough heat in the chambers to close the ring gaps.... When the ring gap closes & the ring ends butt it sticks the ring in the bore & when the rod tries to pull the piston down the bore the ring along with the head of the piston stays near the top of the bore..... The piston skirt collapses & carnage ensues...

Exactamundo! Check out the piston crowns with rings attached, that they were picking out of that engine! That engine was designed to run in an old Chevy truck all it's life and the engineers did NOT figure on some cowboy turboing the bejeezus out of it when they calculated ring gaps and piston longevity!  :screwy:
