Door Panel Dye/Paint

I have a pair of door panels that were originally black but were dyed/painted blue. I want to paint them black. What do I need to do to prep the surface. I know Classic Industries has a special cleaner and surface prep. I can see using all these steps if the panels were never painted. Can I just spray it with the interior paint or do I need to scuff it and then spray it with the prep? Thanks

Hey polar, your link didn't work.

Sem products are great. 
I would use a cleaner of my own like Zylene/zylon.  Then use Sem's cleaner.
Then use sem's vinyl prep paint.  Then use sem black color. And do 2 or 3 really really light coats. 

That's what has worked for me in the past.

If the panels were black to begin with, why not remove the white? There's been threads about this and I seem to remember one tip was to use oven cleaner to lift the paint. I'd try it first on the inside to confirm it didn't harm the plastic. Some have also recommended using brake fluid, as Lord knows that'll attack paint. You could also try a pressure washer, since most people don't prep the surface correctly and the adhesion suffers accordingly, allowing the water to blow the paint off. Whatever method  you choose, try a small part first to be safe and not ruin your panels. Good luck

careful with the power washer.  I have blown the texture off of the panel taking paint off.

Brake fluid scares me.  Getting 100 percent of the fluid off before repainting is a tough thing.

Oven cleaner seems to be the go to product.  It's the lye that works.

Of course there is paint stripper also. 

Problem with covering other paint is the texture can get filled in and not have much texture feel or look.

I used the SEM soap, adhesion promoter and Landau Black with very good results.

Do I need to remove the paint before I use the Sem products? I noticed one of the panels was blue and the other is black. So, I will need to paint one of the panels (the black painted blue).  Thanks

I'd prep and paint both panels or you'll have to look at the difference forever. Just my
