70 Cuda - Engine Compartment Measurements ?
« on: February 03, 2019 - 03:44:02 PM »
I have a 70 Barracuda and I need help with some engine compartment measurements.  The firewall, inner fenders, upper 26” radiator support and both fenders were all recently replaced at the same time.  Everything is back together and I am working on lining everything up (doors, fenders, front end and hood).  I have come to realize it should have been done piece by piece and suspect I may have lost the proper alignment of the engine compartment.

Everything was replaced with AMD products and I suspect some of the parts are slightly off OEM specifications.  The big fitment problem is the driver’s side fender.  I can get it close, but it needs a lot of spacers between the fender and inner fender.  Additionally, I noticed the driver’s side inner fender has a dip in the middle across the top which could be part of the problem.

I realize it’s late in the process, but I want to double check these parts to make sure their measurements are correct.  I have the factory specs for the frame and those measurements are OK.

So here are my questions:

1.  Are there any factory specifications and/or measurements for the proper fitment or alignment of these parts?
2.  If not, does anyone have any measurements for the location of the inner fenders and radiator support?
3.  If the car is level, should the top of the inner fenders be level or angle down slightly?

I appreciate any help!

Thanks, Jim

The DODGE Body Service Manual from Chrysler Corporation has a chapter titled "Body and Frame Alignment."  Nice illustrations with body alignment dimensions. I bought mine on ebay.

Is this the same thing that's included in the 1970 Plymouth Service Manual for the Belvidere, Fury, Barracuda and Valiant under the Body and Frame section? I have that service manual and the Body and Frame has a lot of information and the frame specifications, but doesn't give any other body dimensions.

I tried to find a body service manual for a 1970 Plymouth Cuda, but couldn't.  I found a body service manual for a 1971 Plymouth Cuda, which I guess would work. Does anyone know if the 1971 Body Service Manual gives actual dimensions for the proper location and alignment of the firewall, inner fenders and radiator support or is it generic in nature like the body and frame section in the 1970 Plymouth service manual?

I just found the 1971 Plymouth Body Service Manual online and it is the same as what the 1970 Service Manual had in the Body and Frame section.  Good information, but it doesn't have any of the dimensions I need.

That's what I was just writing.
If we know where you want measurements from and to it would not be too difficult to walk out to one of my barracuda's and take some measurements.

Great Idea!  Here are pics of the measurements I need.  I would need the measurements for the drivers and passengers side inner fender.  This should help to make sure I get everything lined up correctly.

If I put a straight edge on the top of the inner fender, should it be perfectly flat?  Mine drops down about 1/2" in the middle.
