It's just a car and, as mentioned, the important part here is that you both- amazingly- walked away from it. Having said all that, don't be in a hurry to part it out, if I may be so bold to say. It needs a rear clip and a bunch of time on a good frame rack, but as has also been said, we've all seen worse ones brought back from the dead. With the proliferation of replacement parts now out there for these cars, it's do-able. I get that it's been wounded unto death in your eyes, but perhaps it's someone's new project. Please keep us posted on how Hagerty handles this for you, and see the bright- and living- side of it all.

I fully agree. That's why I posted here first. I know it can be fixed. I'm just not sure I want to do it. I would much rather see it fixed than parted out. All gonna depend on the salvage value hagerty comes up with.

Sorry for your loss, and glad nobody was hurt.
While it must really suck for that to happen, after you invested a lot of time money and sweat, you can buy another one. I wouldn't want to tackle that much work to fix up that car either.

Or what the salvage value is may buy entire car for parts

Thanks everyone for the sentiments. The appraiser came by Tuesday. I had already made up a list of parts I could tell were damaged, I went thru the AMD website and priced everything in the rear plus anything else I could think of. I came up to 16k in parts alone. I also have my original list of parts I have in it already and that one is about 12k. Hopefully early next week I will hear the final word from Hagerty and can find out about the salvage value.

Well I'm sure Hagerty will total it so I'm covered for money I have in it. I'm trying to figure out what I'm gonna do once I find out Hagertys salvage value. I would rather see it back on the road as opposed to parting it out. Since it is a numbers matching, 340, 4 speed Cuda. Plus I have some old documentation and history of ownership.

Well, I heard from Hagerty today. The estimate ended up at $32,500.00 and I have it value insured at $40k so they are totaling it. State Farm has already agreed to full responsibility so even though I filed it through Hagerty and let them deal with it I will not have to pay my deductible, which I shouldn't as it was his fault. Regarding the salvage value if I decide to keep the car. What they do is contact Copart and have them do some kind of online listing through their auctions and whatever someone bids based on their limited knowledge of the car is what they value it at. Then if I do not keep it Copart contacts the bidder and tells them they won. Seems kind of weird to me but hopefully it will come in low. Supposed to take 3 business days so I should know Monday or Tuesday.
