Distributor Leads/Spark Plug Wires Question

Hey lads,


Need some help. I have tti headers on my 440ci. The leads from the dizzy are in some areas to short, they fit (just).
But are too tight and on more than one lead touching the headers. Surely there are leads made for cars with headers?
The stock manifolds would have been fine, but these headers are making it hard to place and connect the HT leads.  :-\ :-[


What can I do? My resto team said they can make them but they don't want to as it won't look correct and quite frankly, ugly.
I suggested buying another set of leads and using the longer ones from that set to replace the shorter ones on the car now.

Even when they do fit they are very VERY close to the headers and for obvious heat reasons this is not good.  :grinno:


Any suggestions? Help, pointers? Are there leads made for 440's etc with headers?

From looking at the pics, it looks like you can swap the #8 cyl wire (longer) to the #6 cyl ( hard to get to).  It looks like the six wire is long enough to go over the top of the valve cover and straight down to the plug leaving you the longer wire for routing to that #6 plug. Unless of course their the same length.

BlueBucket: It's not so much the length, my resto team are good and can switch and make them fit like you have suggested, but they JUST fit and when they do they are just to close for comfort.  :-\ I have seen some kind of sheild/wrap use on the plugs.

Whats it called, as it any good and where could I purchase some?

Anyone? My car won't be starting unless I can sort this problem out.  :'( I've seen many cars with "insulation" padding of some sought around parts of the headers, what is it? Will they save my leads from melting?

Thanks mate, they look pretty decent.
Any idea on why I'm having trouble fitting leads? Some are too short, are there plug sets made for cars with headers?

Cant see all the problems, looks like straight boots would help in one or two cases...

shorty spark plugs might be called for, in a spot or two.

What are "shorty spark plugs" and do you know of a vendor that stocks them?

MSD  & Blue MAx have variable angle straight boots that can be bent up to 75* or so , some spark plugs are made shorter like the Accel plugs
