Look'n for a guesstiment
« on: July 01, 2019 - 11:13:38 PM »
 :dunno:

Hi . . . was advised to ask my question here.
Below is a copy/paste of my introduction post . . . . complete with Question ???????????????

.

I've lived in So. Dakota most of my life, but when I graduated from high school back in "75", I wandered off to northern California where I bought my 1st Mopar muscle car . . . a 68 440 Coronet RT.  I have a lot of fond memories of that car, but eventually sold it due to unemployment.

Fast forward to 2002 where I was surfing Mopars on eBay while reminiscing of the "good old days" . . . ended up placing one low bid on a 70 Challenger RT Six Pack "project" car, knowing that I had no chance of winning.  To my surprise, I won that car (and my wife's disapproval), and it's been parked in the trees behind my house ever since.

So now, I'm just a year away from retirement and getting excited about doing a full on restoration of it, now that I'll have the time and money to do so.
The car is pretty rough, but I'm feeling up to the challenge (no pun intended).

Been doing a little online research, and am currently trying to figure out the build date of this car.
Problem is, that some previous person appears to have tried to remove the build date sticker located on the drivers door. Also, the sticker was painted over and unreadable.  I slowly & carefully sanded away at the paint with progressively finer grits of paper until I broke through the paint with 2000 grit . . . fine enough to slowly remove the remaining paint, but not coarse enough to wipe out the numbers.

The month number was missing, but I'm thinking it was probably built sometime around the 4th or 5th month of 1970.
The back 3/4 of the serial number are pictured below . . .  does anyone have a good estimate on it's build month based on this number?
The car's interior was striped at one point (long story), so finding the build sheet is out of the question.

I'm so glad I found this site/forum . . . it will definitely save me a lot of mistakes along the way.  Any help on the build month would be most appreciated.

must be 4/70 on the door sticker
SPD should be 408 (8. April 1970)

I am curious how you arrived at that; not questioning it in anyway, just wondering.

Culvers,
That wasn't a guesstiment, YOU FLAT OUT NAILED IT!!   :worshippy

I found the fender tag and posted the same thing in my newbie intro post, but that was hours AFTER you had posted this build date estimate.
Simply amazing  that you even got the correct day!

LA tags are not so often, I don't have many in my list
I found one with sequence 108609 with SPD 930 and one with 110040 and SPD A06; so your SPD should be "in the middle" (maybe A03 or A04)
