Normal readings for oil and temp on 71 Cuda Rally Guages.
« on: August 05, 2019 - 12:02:01 PM »
Just had my rally gauges removed and sent away to be refurbished. As most eventually had stopped working. While gauges were being done had a new under dash, engine and front, rear harness also installed to replace old wiring. My question is what should the normal readings be on the oil and temp gauges. Had car out just around town, hot day and the temp needle stayed just above the C and the oil gauge stayed just a bit above the L. Car ran fine and just wondering about the normal ranges for these readings. Have SAE 30 Valvoline VR-1 racing oil in car now.
Thanks.

Not really a "normal" as each car is different, however you want the temp to stay as cool as possible (within reason) and the oil pressure to remain moderate. In other words, ideally the temp gauge would stay from C to the middle and the oil pressure would be middle to H. All this said, these are really just guidelines and do not really provide a good indication of what is really going on, they are there just to tell you when something is wrong and needs to be looked at. I run aftermarket mechanical or electronic gauges in all my cars
