Someone had mentioned that while using the factory tachometer (installed a new one) on a non-factory ignition required an add on since the new ignition may not work correctly with the factory tachometer. 12 volts goes to the long stud on the back of the factory tach while the negative side of the coil on the factory system goes to the tab on the factory tach. Grounding is achieved through the mounting hardware.

Anybody have success with the older factory tach on a newer ignition system? Thanks!!!

I sent my OEM rallye dash tach to Auto Instruments. They replaced the board in the tach and said it would work with �any� ignition system. Don�t know about �any� but it works just fine with a mopar performance orange box unit. Checked it against an old Sears automotive engine analyzer and it�s pretty accurate. A Mopar mechanic friend installed the mopar performance unit for me so I can�t speak about electrical side of things other than it works just fine.

What do you mean "modern" ignition? Are you talking Mopar electronic ignition or something like MSD? With the Mopar electronic ignition it should not be an issue and hook up normally, however if you are using a MSD or other CDI ignition, you will need their adapter. MSD has 2 different adapters, you need to call them to find out which one you need, I did the opposite and bought the one I was sure would work, it didn't and I called MSD and they told me I needed the other one which worked fine.
