71 barracuda WIW
« on: September 19, 2019 - 01:37:33 PM »
I will preface this with saying it's a longshot...  Have someone beating down my door to buy my 72 RR.  A car show friend/acquaintance has a few cars one of which is a 71 barracuda that i believe he said started out as a 318 car and he made it what he wanted (sassy grass 340 shaker 5spd).  I've joked with him a few times about if he'd ever sell it...his response was never say never.
This car is a very solid show car, not a trailer queen.  Just wondering what y'all think pricing on a non match small block BH 71 would be ballparked at.  I know it's gonna be higher because he isn't looking to sell and I'd be trying to entice him.

here's my 72 RR.  She won her class at Carlisle in 2015,16, and 17.  She's been in Mopar Muscle in 2014 and Muscle Car Review in July 2018.

Hard to put a price on something unseen.
I would just keep the Road Runner

I have to agree, keep the RR. That said, the value of the Cuda is highly subjective. You would need to do a lot of research and given just the picture it is very hard to put a number on, could be $20K or it could be $50K+ depending on a lot of factors. Just looking at the pic, I would say $30K-$42K, but I am not a investor and am bad at estimating value because I always think what I would pay and I don't think I would pay $40K for it but that is just me.
Current Mopar

Past Mopars

That road runner is  bad ass.  Factory sunroof too!  Really cool car.

the 71 is a stunner as well.   However only a 318 car.  Hard to put a price on it without more pics.
How about a fender tag readout?  Is there a build sheet?  Is it a BH or a BP?
What's its original color?

How long ago was the restoration completed?  Any pictures before body work?

I know it's a color change and has a FT, he built it how he wanted it...340 shaker, AC, 5spd, Sublime.
Here's 2 more pics.

The more I look at it the more I think you should keep the RR. I love E bodies (own 2 of them) and I do love some B bodies (have a 70 RR), but in your case you are giving up something that is pretty scarce for something that someone created. The Barracuda definitely looks good but at the end of the day is a 318 BH car. If you want an E body, I would hold out for a real BS car if you are looking at this from a collector or investor prospective. Now if your dream car is a 71 Cuda shaker car and you feel that you will never sell it and really want to enjoy it, they this probably isn't a bad deal depending on what he wants for it.

Personally I think your RR is going to increase in value more than you think and if you sell it, it will not be long before you regret it. But this really depends on how you feel about all of it.

I appreciate your perspective for sure. However I have to contemplate it. Guy is offering over 40 for the RR. and if you've seen the market on 71-72's you'll see they are low-mid 30's. My car is non match drivetrain and not a sunroof car from the factory. But it is a 2 magazine car and last year for the high impact colors...last year for the air grabber... and the hood/trunk stripes are 72 only and only available w the ag ...and you're right you never see them unless you're at a national show.

I am a very firm believer in "its your car", but you did ask so there is that....  Again, it all comes back to what it is you want or want to have. If a Cuda is your dream car, thats one thing, if however the RR is more of your dream car you already have your answer. Good luck with whatever you decide and either way you will have a very nice car.

Thanks CH... It's not a factory sunroof car...those are super limited. The guy who restored the car put in the roof from a 73 b body to replace one of those JC Whitney plastic pop up sunroofs.  Don't know the exact particulars on the 71 because I never looked that close to verify it, as I was never looking at it from a purchase viewpoint.  I will see it as we're going to the same show on sunday.  Here is a link to mopar connection web article on the cuda: https://moparconnectionmagazine.com/30-years-in-the-making-rich-gengos-1971-plymouth-cuda/

Take the over $40 offer on the RR and run. That 71 Barracuda looks to be worth at least $40k.
