Torsion Bars
« on: October 19, 2019 - 02:22:38 PM »
I have a 70 Challenger R/T-SE
I'm rebuilding the front end and would like to replace the torsion bars.  They are .90 bars and I can't find that size available.  The build sheet says heavy duty .90 torsion bars. So if I can't find that size can you put in a different size. Maybe the next size bigger. I'm not sure.

I bought heavy duty TB's from my local Mopar dealer and I think they were something like .960" and I paid approx. $200 Canadian. Hope that helps

Torsion bars come in many different sizes. They will all work as long as they are for an e body. Other body styles use different length bars. The diameter of the bar has the affect of changing spring rate. Larger diameter bar equals a higher spring rate and a stiffer, more predictable ride. These cars were horribly under sprung from the factory. Do some research and you will see most people would recommend a minimum of a 1.06" bars, and some run up to 1.25". Small block? Big Block? Performance handling? Do you want a factory "ride", performance, OEM restoration? Your choice. Many companies offering bars in various sizes...Google is your friend..

I agree, call Don at Firm Feel, great guy and knowledge on the suspension.  I bought the 1.03 bars from him.

I have the above in my car and they seem to keep the nose off the ground.
