Sound Deading in the Engine Compartment
« on: January 22, 2020 - 10:43:32 PM »
I have a 70 Barracuda with a 360, stock exhaust manifolds, dual exhaust with TTI mufflers. I insulated/sound deadened the interior/firewall and trunk. I now notice noise from the engine compartment.  What can I use to sound deaden the engine compartment?  I've seen the hood insulation pads. Is the molded or die cut mats better? Is there something similar to Dynamat I can use?  Thanks.

What do you mean "noise from the engine compartment"? Its a muscle car, you are supposed to hear the engine..

I don't think putting sound deadener on your hood it going to help all that much, I would try and find the stock mat and see if that gets you were you want to be, you could also double up the material on the firewall (inside).

The sound of the engine is music to my ears... I don't have a radio, either, as I want to hear the engine.. as I'm cruising or racing.

With the stock exhaust manifold and the mufflers near the rear of the car, you don't hear the "muscle car" unless you are outside of the car. The engine noises I hear are the pulleys and the air cleaner.  I agree, the muscle car sound is what you want to hear. Eventually I will get headers, after I replace the steering box.  Thanks

I would look at getting and installing the hood insulator pad then. You could put sound deadener there but I think it would look crappy and a real pain to remove should you ever want to.
