Wind Noise From Drivers Window
« on: March 02, 2020 - 01:50:55 PM »
I have a 1/8 inch space between the weather strip on the body and the driver side window. The space is about mid window to the back of the door. The door looks like it's aligned. The inward adjustment of rhe window is at max. It looks like the door was hit (bondo oozing out of the pull holes). Could the door be distorted? The wind noise is driving me crazy.  Thanks

Yes it is possible but it would have to be bent pretty bad. Adjusting those window is a bit of an art in that what each adjustment while you know what it is supposed to do, typically works backwards from what you brain is thinking. Additionally, every adjustment affects every other adjustment, it may be possible that your window is canted fore and aft to the point that at the point it cannot pull in at the point you are having issues with. Its hard to see without seeing it and even then it takes a lot of patience, adjustment, readjustment, etc. The angles of those windows and the body are a bit complicated, I have on occasion backed off all of the adjustments and started over. From the sounds of it, your window is either canted or slide too far forward (doesnt take much).

Have you stopped by any body shops or better yet connected with any local Mopar clubs where you might link up with some old school Mopar guys who could help you?

I slide the window to the max forward adjustment because the front of the window wasn't touching the weather strip near the lower corner of the body.  That fixed that problem,  I noticed that when I roll the window about half way up/down, there is a forward and aft movement on the rear guide, about 1/2 to 1 inch.  Is there anything on the rear track that can wear out?  I replaced all the plastic pieces on the regulator/window in the last six months. When the window is all the way up, there is no movement. Do you by chance have a photo of how the window should interface with the weather strip. I do think you are correct about the window being too far forward. I'll keep trying to adjust the window. I saw a trick on Wheeler Dealers, They used a nylon cord tucked in a pocket behind the weather strip, that pushed the rubber outward. That may be my last resort. Thanks

So if I understand correctly, as you roll the window up it is moving forward (as in towards the front of the car)? Sounds like your one or both of the tracks is canted or better said, the bottom is pushed too far to the rear.

As to pictures, here is the only one I currently have, maybe another member can chime in.

Looking at your photo, I have the window glass coming up too far. It completely covers the weather strip and almost touches the molding. By the way, do you know what the little black metal piece is, that is on the body near the top where the glass curves? I'll adjust the window and let you know how it goes.  Thanks

If you look at the weatherstrip it has a lip on the inside, the glass lays against that. I am not sure what metal piece you are talking about.

I'll try to take a photo of the metal piece. It's on both sides of the car. On your photo, if you look at the window near the pillar where the glass starts to curve. Thanks

Yeah get a pic or copy mine, drop it into power point and put an arrow or circle on what you are talking about.

Here are some pics. The system won't accept a power point. I think the weather strip is defective. In the front the glass doesn't touch the weather strip, the area that leaks, the weatherstrip is collapsed.  The seal on the rear window looks strange.  The passendger side fits well. I also included a pic of the metal tab, I had a question about.

Sorry, I should have been clearer, what I meant was drop the pictures into power point and make them fit onto the slide, then save them as a picture and they will usually be uploadable here.

Anyway, are you talking about the chrome strip on the quarter window (A) the stainless on the drip rail (B) or the inner drip rail (C)?

Depleted weatherstrip is common, replace it with one of the better brands like Soffseal, contact Roseville Moparts or any number of providers online.

It just dawned on me that you might be asking about the small piece of metal up in the front corner which is an alignment tab, it keeps the window tight when closed, they are called anti rattle clips

The weather strip is about four months old. It was the OEM brand, purchased from Classic Industries. I'll try another weather strip from a different source. Yes I was asking about the alignment tab (now that I know what it's called.)  Thanks
