Loose Drivers Side Glass
« on: March 07, 2020 - 11:51:31 AM »
I replaced all the window hardware for the drivers side window. I had to remove the window twice to tighten the round plastic guide that attaches to the window glass and slides in the front metal guide. Is there something I can do to prevent the plastic guide from getting loose from the glass? I was looking at the design. The screw causes the back side of the plastic to expand against the glass, causing it to tighten. I could put a larger screw or use a screw with a nylon lock nut. I don't think they sell just the plastic piece. The whole kit is about $80.  Anyone have any suggestions?

What do you mean "loose from the glass"? Do you have a factory service manual?

When I move the the glass back and forth (toward the passenger seat and back), I can see the plastic guide move on the glass. I've tightened it in the past and it solves the problem for a while but gets loose again.  I'll try to take a photo of the part. I have a chassis service manual for a challenger (but not a (but not a Barracuda) but it doesn't cover any of the body parts.

Cuda and Challenger are the same, no issues there. So lets try and establish some clearer lines of communication because I am slightly lost.

So if I understand you, when you move the window from side to side (like you are facing the front of the car and moving the glass towards the inside of the car and toward the outside of the car), you are saying that you can see the glass move on the plastic guides? Do you have the window guides in? The window rides against them to a degree but they do limit the "in and out" movement and if installed correctly would not allow the window to move inward.

Yes I have these guides in. I will send you a photo of the part I'm talking about. Maybe I didn't assemble the hardware correctly. I replaced all the parts the way I removed them. Unfortunately, the parts didn't come with instructions.  Thanks

I gave you the wrong info. The piece I was talking about is the piece that goes behind the guide and holds the guide to the window (see attachment). As you can see, this is not a restoration at this time. I'm trying to get everything mechanically sound and be able to drive the car first.  Thanks.

ok, so you know that round thing is supposed to be inside the track right? In the picture it is outside the track.

What are the black rectangular guides that came with the kit for? The rectangular pieces were in the guide when I took it apart.. Like I mentioned, I assembled the window the way I found it. The passenger side is the same. I didn't touch the passenger side. This is probably  why I can't get the glsass to align properly.  I'll take it apart and place the circulat piece  in the guide and remove the rectangular pieces.  Thanks.

Thanks 4Cruizn. This really helps. The problem I'm having is the white round piece that holds the guide to the window becomes loose. The piece is new abd the threads don't stay tight.  Thanks again
