Which car made you a car enthusiast?
« on: February 21, 2021 - 07:48:13 AM »
Howdy my fellow car enthusiasts.  8)
I’m curious to know – which car got you started? Which car made you a car enthusiast?
My dad owned a Volkswagen T2 and we spent some time on oldtimer events, so this is where my fascination first started.
I stopped to pick up a hitchhiker.
Turns out he was just telling me that he approved of my driving.

The first one was my grandfather's new 54 Desoto with it's chrome and woodgrain dash, and I remember hanging over the fender when my dad bought the 55 Dodge. My first car was a 58 dodge 2 dr ht and I put a V8 engine in it, a Synchrolock Hurst shifter, a 4 bbl carb/intake and dual exhaust and that started the "enthusiast" sickness, that's been life long. It's a large club.    :burnout:

That's a tough question . . I was always drawn to the 67-69 camaro. But the first car I ever bought was a 73 cuda.

Yeah unfortunately I was brought up in a Ford Family as my father was an engineer at Ford here in Michigan.  Growing up, if I asked what a car was while driving around . . all I would get is  "Son, That is Brand X"  so unless it was ford . . it didn't matter.  My second car was a 69 Camaro that I drove for many years while the cuda sat in the garage at my moms.  I ended up selling that car for $1500 and that paid for the interior in the ebody.

Great back story! And. if you're going to drive a Chevy, a '69 Camaro is the way to go, for sure!

My father drove a Audia A8 Limousine and I loved it.
A friend of mine has some Oldtimer and because of these cars I was getting a car enthusiast.

Honestly, as a child I watched the Dukes of Hazzard.  That Charger is what turned me into a car guy.

The next step was an older friend in high school had a 76 firebird that he would go race on the weekends around colorado springs and denver.  I was the passenger on many a race and he won most of the time.  Surprisingly fast car!  I knew  I had to have the speed after that.

Here in Australia during the '50's & '60's we had a locally manufactured GMH car, the rest were mainly English and American imports. Ford started to manufacture the Falcon in 1960 here in Australia followed by the Chrysler Valiant (Signet). I was impressed by the lines and performance of these Valiants, the Falcons were under powered and not suitable for the harsher Aussie conditions but did make sales.
My first road car was a GMH utility (1/2 Ton Truck), all the local Hot Rod guys had early Holden sedans (GMH) so I modified my Ute and put most to shame including the Slant 6 Valiants. Finally I purchased a New Valiant Pacer 4 dr (Dodge Dart) which had our locally manufactured 245ci engine. This was the start of a long association I was to have with the MOPAR brand.

Might be an unwelcome opinion here, but do yall discuss the topic of CO2 here aswell? I see "The bigger the truck, the better" and stuff over here, but is there a thread where stuff like that get adressed?
I did read a bit into the topic: https://www.luftking.de/co2-ausstoss-weltweit/ . It IS in German, since i am German myself. But it is quite easy to translate with an online tool. Have a look if you are interested

Hi everyone!
I'd say it was the 54 Desoto from my neighbor, as I have been a kid.
Can sill remember when he took me for a ride! One of my best memories!
Have a nice day!
