Collapsed steering shaft

So, from what I gather, the inner shaft has a slot where some type of nylon material was melted into place to secure the outer shaft with 4 small pins. Why couldn't I simply warm up the shaft with a propane torch until the plastic reanimates into a bubbly goo and rewelds the pins to the center.

Im willing to listen.

What is it you are trying to do?

As I disassembled my steering column. I found that the steering shaft has been collapsed. That is the two small plastic shear pins have sheared.
From what I understand from Cody the center shaft has some type of groove that is filled with plastic and what looks like the pins are essentially  the spots where the melted plastic was injected.  Can you simply remelt that same plastic?
