Pulling TF727 from '72 Cuda
« on: July 27, 2021 - 05:22:31 PM »
What is the easiest way of removing a Torqueflight 727 from an E-body ('72 Cuda), dropping it from the bottom or pulling the engine with the trans attached? My car is going on 50 years old and the transmission has never been removed, and the seals are starting to leak so I want to freshen it up later this fall. If I pull it from the bottom, how high do I need to get the car in order to clear the transmission through the wheel well?

Depends on what resources you have and what you want. If you have a lift then its a no brainer, drop it out the bottom as any transmission shop would. If you don't have a lift then you need to lift the front end or better yet the whole car and do it from the bottom. That said, pulling the engine and transmission will allow you to do a lot of clean up and maintenance that you could not do otherwise as easily.

I have done it both ways but if the transmission is the only problem then drop it out the bottom.
