Knob under steering wheel/dash?
« on: August 24, 2021 - 12:53:02 AM »
Hey all, hoping someone can shed some light on this for me. After a few long years of being in storage I've finally started working on our 72 Barracuda. Mainly mechanical stuff for now, but I'm trying to clean up some messy wiring, etc, from the previous owner. When working under the dash I noticed there appears to be a cable/knob that is missing from right under the dash to the left of the steering wheel that looks similar to the knobs used for opening the air vents. Any idea what this is, I have it circled in red? The knob is missing, it looks like someone yanked on it and broke the end off. Just trying to figure out what I'm missing so it can be replaced.

Link below is for the picture on my google drive, seems pictures don't work here anymore.

I cant open the picture but I would tell you to follow the cable and see where it goes, most likely its a choke but could be something else.

There is a knob at the left side for interior hood release, but it's not round like the vent knobs. Does the knob have anything written on it? I have a Holley choke knob that's in that general area, but it also has Holley written on it. Good advice from Mike to simply trace it back and see where it goes.

Yeah I need to trace it back, just thought maybe I'd get a quick answer here.  I can't say what's on the knob, because it's missing haha.

Nah, this one is under the steering wheel and goes through the firewall to the left of the steering column.  I don't really know what the knob looks like because it's missing, there's just a mounting point and a cable.

As most said, I think it's probably a choke cable at this point.  Just been so hot I haven't had a chance to get out in the garage.

Most choke cables do not usually have a removable knob, but that doesn't mean that isn't what it is. You didn't say if there was a cable or wires coming out it. Whatever it is it is not stock if that was the intend of the question initially.

It's a small steel braided cable.  I put a link to the picture but for some reason folks here don't seem to be able to open it.  The heat is finally breaking here so probably Wednesday I'll get out in the garage and trace it back.  General consensus at this point seems to be a choke cable that was added.

I guess my advise is to join the ebodies.org forum where you can post pictures and start a thread there . . .

That's good advice.

I could not open the link either.  I need access.   If you supply the access code maybe we can get in to see the pics.
