Hey all

I am working on a 318 with Mopar Performance cast aluminum valve covers....in my Cuda.

It had the PCV hole opened up and grommetted by a previous owner.....I have been running a ""stock" PCV valve for a decade...

In an effort to chase down an idle problem I am gonna try an ME Wagner adjustable PCV valve (the engine is heavily cam'd) .....

The valve cover hole  measures 7/8" and the adjustable PCV valve requires a 3/4" hole for it in the grommet...

That only leaves 1/16" on a  side for sealing purposes if I am doing my 5th grade math right for the meat of the grommet hole...but should work.....

Is there such a beast and anyone know where to find it?

All I am finding is much larger hole grommets.

Since you've got a hole in the cover already, I'd just enlarge it to fit a standard small grommet. The oem covers had two sizes of grommets and the smaller one should stay within the area of the hole in the cover and takes a 3/4" pcv.

Thanks for the reply...

Yeah I thought about enlarging the hole... but two challenges:

one, there isnt that much meat left of the thinner part where the grommet seals.....there is a much thicker "ring" around the thinner part currently with the hole. None if the grommets I have seen will accomodate that thicker piece.

two, once the hole is bigger I am stick with it....LOL...currently run the 7/8" grommet with the small hole in it for the smaller PVC......if I enlarge the hole and it dont work, THEN I am up ****s creak...LOL

I picked up a couple of 3/4" grommets from the local shops.....they measure about an inch OD....gonna see if "maybe" I can squeeze that in there....seems like too much but....

But back to what you said.....do you off hand know what the standard grommet with the 3/4" PCV hole measures OD?

I've got one on my bench as we speak, but I'll have to measure it to be sure. I'll measure the diameter of the surface that goes against the cover and the overall diameter as well.

I went out and bought a couple of ¾” ID grommets the parts stores had friday….they measure just over 1” OD….

Took the valve cover off for better access…..

Here is what I have….....can’t really make the hole bigger without making the lip needed for sealing unusable……I suppose I could machine the boss (from the inside) bigger, as long as the bottom of the machining would have a flat bottom, and make the sealing lip wider that way….but these covers are hard to find and if I screw it up well…LOL……Mancini appears to sell some grommets that are for cast covers and have a wider sealing groove…..but that seems like that would mean the grommet would then extend into the cover more and stick out on the other side, getting too close to the baffle.  I could try and alter the baffle, but ……

But, upon trying the store bought grommets, I found that I can get them in…..

So, it seems the rubber will compress enough to work. Looking at it from the inside, it appears a little distorted due to the force fit…..but I got a socket with an OD of .746 and the socket fits in the grommet once installed….

The grommet is thick, but less than ¾” thick installed…..measuring about .703” from the outside of the grommet to the inside ….so plenty of space between the PCV valve and the baffle that will be there.

So assuming the adjustable valve is ¾” and doesn’t mind a tight fit, it should fit.

Tried uploading some pics, get an error..... :(   )

Sounds like you've got it worked out. Good to hear!
