Chat Problems
« on: July 17, 2005 - 03:14:17 PM »
Ive been looking into the chat function, and have noted some really bizarre behaviors.  The counter doesnt appear to work right, and sometimes the chat itself doesnt work right.  most times you can still get in and chat though.  im working on it...

EveryWhereChat was having some major issues a while back. The counter was hanging and bogging down the D-C.com site so I had to shut it off for a week or so (just the counter and list - not the chat). Since then, the counter came back up and wouldn't bog down the site even if wasn't working right. However, the list of users never did work after that. I culd always get into the chat room though. By the way, did you know that I show up as a Mod in your chat room? I'll let you know what it tells me in a PM.

Usually when I sign into the chat room I do not come up as a mod when I am supposed to.  Sometimes it does come up correctly, but not usually.

I was researching another subject and found out that EWC (the chat hosting company) moved ALL of their servers to a new datacenter a while back. This is part of the reason for the screwy stats and the slow page loading times. Ever since then, they've had issues with some of the scripts and some of the room permissions. Ross, it might be a good idea for you to login to the support room and speak with Brodie to see if he can figure out the issues. I was in the room a few days ago (first time in a while that it allowed me to login) but no one else was around for me to see if it was ok.
