360 engine running really rich on idle. HELP!
« on: November 23, 2024 - 05:02:12 PM »
Hey guys, been a while, on the 74 now, just about finished & having NO LUCK getting the new edie carb tuned for idle.
What I have done up to now. It's the orig numbers 360, was worked at some point in it's life, 30 over pistons & a mild came, but no info on that.
What I did was remove adjustable rockers & install factory rockers & new factory push rods.
She fires right up, no pumping the pedal, just turn the key!
burns your eyes in seconds, it's a brand new edlebrock 600, with the correct adaptor, the manifold is a stock 1971 340 unit.
At the moment carb adjustment screws are only out 1/2 turn & it runs rougher but does not stall when you close it, after a while my mechanic just set the timing by vacuum, 15" at idle
At higher rbm's it runs good & cleans up.
He's been through the carb & has the floats set at minimum, it's a new stock mechanical fuel pump & he's reading 7 1/2 lbs, but doesn't think that's the problem.
He's wondering if the new pushrods are too long for the cam & leaving the intake ports open a bit flooding the cylinders, that test (weather here's any slack in a couple after a run) when I get it back home next week.

Any ideas, thoughts on where to look & suggestions would help a ton, we are grasping at straws
