Solid or hydraulic ? How much gear in the car ? How much stall speed ? These questions need to be answered before cam selection can be finalized, inmo. The cam for this application will be a custom grind. Engle has some nice fast rate hydraulic grinds that can be custom specced. Intake and exhaust lobes can be mixed and matched for a special needs application and the lsa can be specified when ordering the cam.

Any reason you want to go with iron heads ? They will be more detonation prone, especially the open chamber 906 castings. Not that you can't make it work....it's just that a closed chamber head builds quench and makes more power while decreasing the possibility of pre-detonation. Food for thought.

Here ya go Tan:

Engle k60 intake/k62 exhaust ground on a 112* lsa. Get the matching springs or tell hughes what cam you're using and have them installed on the "stage 1" prepped heads. This cam will be pretty mild (sounding) in a 493 but the torque will blow the tires off the car at will. Look around for an old CH4B edelbrock intake manifold. Made of aluminum and look stock....take a die grinder to the logo and most will not be able to tell it apart from stock....especially when painted engine color. It flows much better than the oem cast iron unit and feeding 493 cubes needs all the help it can get. It also takes some weight off the nose of the car.  ;)

Check e-bay, classifieds etc..... for a used one.

Thanks firefighter3931.

I'll go with the six-pack set-up, how is it do you think compared to the CH4B and a 4 BBL ?

And for the cam , I've check on the web site and can't find the spec for the numbers you gave me !

Thanks again I appreciate .

The 6 pack will work just as well if not better. You will have to play with jetting to get it right for the extra cubes but it can be done.

Engle cam grind #'s:

2360-h (intake lobe) + engle 2362-h (exhaust lobe) ground a 112 lsa. Tell this info to the tech support when you call them to order the cam and lifters. You might need to order valvesprings if Hughes won't upgrade your "stage1" 906's.Tell hughes what cam you're using and ask if they can swap in a compatible spring for this grind.

The cam specs will look like this:

Advertised duration: 288*in/291*ex
Duration at .050 lift: 238*in/244*ex
Gross Lift: .534in/.539 ex @ 1.5:1 RR
112 LSA (lobe seperation angle)

Yep, that cam should make lots of manifold vacuum....plenty for power brakes. On a 440 cubed combo it would be marginal for power brakes but on a 493 it'll be "no problemo". Strokers eat camshaft duration and mellow out what would otherwise be a nasty grind. The same cam in a 440 compared to a 493 would sound and behave very differently.
