Hi all, just discover that forum, great !!

Ok, I want to build a 493ci from a 440 with a six-pack set-up, stage1 906 head from Hugues engines,
stock exhaust manifold (yes stock), I want it to look stock outside
but brutal inside !! I want big torque at low rpm and power thru 5500 rpm,
the engine will be in a 70 cuda 4speed, with 3.54 reargear, or 4.10 if I use a keisler 5 speed.
The car will be a driver and want to run it on pump gas.
Compression ratio 9.5:1 max.
I would like to have at least 425(FWHP) and around 450 ft/lbs of torque.

First question : I want to go with an hydraulic roller cam in the 230-240 duration at 0.050",
                       Am I totaly wrong with this or a non roller is just enought ? I want the bigger cam I can with the
                       stock exhaust manifold.   

Second question : I would go with the stroker kit from "440 source.com", is anybody tried it and is it a good
                           deal for the price ?

Well actually I want to built that car, but still looking for a great body with 3 or 4 speed
from factory.

The only picture I can share is my already sold 71 cuda  :'(, Tunisian tan color with green interior !!
probably 1 of 1 with these colors. 383 auto.

Have you talked to Keisler about that ???   

1st gear will be pretty short for you with that combo.   (Unless youre planning on some truck tires in the back)

3.55's have a feel like of  3.91's on first gear on the TKO600

4.10s will feel like 4.44 on a 26" tall tire.

440 source is suppsoed to be a good place to get a kit from , no personal experience though
 for a street engine I would recommend using a solid flat tappet cam over a roller , I have been using the UltraDyne cams , with 243 * @ .050& 580 lift with 1.6 rockers , or the 251* @ .050 & .610 lift with 1.6 rockers
 I could port a set of heads for you if needed , make sure you port or extrude hone the exhaust manifolds

i really like the color of your car.......very unique..........

As for 440source.    I have read and hear others say its a quality place.........I just bought all new Ross pistons, new 440 steel crank, rods with ARP rod bolts and all the bearings from a guy who lost interest in his car and bought a Mustang conv.........I must say I am satisified, but then again I paid only $1300 for everything.......including Childs & Albert rings (Clevite bearings V series)     I have included a site you probably know exits that 440 source tells you about things you and others may be interested in.........here goes         www.440source.com/blockinfo.htm       or www.440source.com

Thanks too Chryco Psycho, about the Ultradyne 243 @ 0.050", how's the idle ? And will I have enought
vaccum for power brake ??  How about Engle cams ? Hydraulic cam would required no periodicly adjustement no ??

actually we used a 243* cam in a 6 pack engine & it has virtually a stock idle with great vacuum & awesome power , i will have dyno results in approx 1 week
 Hyd cams do not need adjustment , solid cams do but generally after the first 500 miles the adjustments are once a year or less

I heard that the cost versus power gain is minimal for extrude hone of the exhaust manifolds  !

If you really want to run the factory manifolds, have the cam ground on a 112 lsa to reduce overlap. This will help with reversion and intake charge dilution due to poor scavenging....which is a problem with manifolds. An x-pipe would be a worthwhile addition as well. If you want it to run on pump fuel, a flattop piston at zero deck with a closed chamber aluminum head will make excellent power and be detonation free. Shoot for 10.5:1 static compression with tight quench.

I really want to run stock exhaust manifold, and want to run ported 906 head too.

I think I should run a cam with a lot more duration on the exhaust side, am I right ?

depends on how the heads are proted , using the 112* LCA helps though

Tancuda, if you plan on using an open chamber iron head (906/452) then shoot for 9.5:1 static compression for pump gas. Depending on intake/exhaust flow balance a split pattern might be in order. As a rule of thumb, factory heads are weaker (comparatively) on the exhaust side. A cam with additional lift and duration helps by allowing the motor to exhale better. A 6-8* split works well in this type of application, from my experience.

I would go with 906 ported head from Hugues Engines (stage 1 head).

Ok, a cam with 112 LCA, 6-8* split, I would prefer a cam designed for chrysler .904" dia. lifter.

I've check and there's not a lot of choice for a cam like this !
