TOTAL Bottom end Destruction!!
« on: July 19, 2005 - 05:13:45 PM »
Lovely day to pull a motor.

I knew the engine was bad when I bought it... with full shot of NOS and 4.56 gears,  but dammm.  :eekbig: :eekbig:

The good news, is that's reason why it's sitting in my garage.
Bad news, it was the original engine.

2nd good news is, I already have the replacement engine for it. http://www.cuda-challenger.com/smf/index.php?topic=10704.0

Totally destroyed, RIP. should make a nice coffee table.

Ahh, so you bought it like that? I would have sold my car if I caused that much damage to an engine. I see nothing wrong with nitrous use for an extra edge, its just that a lot of people are starting to rely on it for all their horsepower.....

Well the guy who bought it, got it from another guy, and I think that's how it ended up,... with him.
He, number 2, didn't want to sell and it just sat for years and years. Finally he, number 1, keeped bugging him about it, fortunately he needed the cash.

Then number 1 was laid off from Boeing, and sold it to me.

I will keep the block Rob, it is still original to the car. In 30 years, I'll restore it again, maybe then it would get fixed.

You would have so much money in that block if you decide to try using it. It looks like a bunch of the cylinders will have to be sleeved. Also, the block probably has stress cracks all around the main girdles, so factor in that cost. Just not worth the repair cost. That block will make a good story, just not a good engine.

It may very well be expensive task, but I guess it also depends on what having the original block to that particular car (inside and running) will make in value difference to the car at sale time.

For instance (and its probably not applicable today, but who knows about tomorrow)
If it bumped the car value up an additional 8000$ having the original block,   I would gladly spend $7000 on fixing it.

I win the blown motor award.  Another victim of NOS, a weapon of Mass Destruction.  ;)

I'll get it hot tanked at a machine shop then ask if it could be fixed. Magnafluxed and all, if there is a sonic test to look inside. Could do a NASCAR thing and deep freeze the block to make it stronger. Pop 4 or 6 sleeves in it and build a crate to store it.

The crank is toast.
