they can be rebuilt , but not easily rebuilt ones are nto expensive , you may want to look into upgrading to a Firm Feel unit

I replaced my my original unit with a Firmfeel #2.

The original, you could steer the car all day long with 2 fingers, including parking lot duty.

The firm feel #2, has a positive and well I guess a "firm" feel, no slop and feels like a modern sportscar.  Drove mine around the neighbor hood a few laps this week and Im really happy with it.

For a direct comparison, Its almost identical in feel to my 99 4Runner 4x4 rack pinion steering with 33" tires.

Right on,  I just ordered a firm feel #2 , it wasnt cheap, I think it was about 500 bucks by the time it gets here, but they will refund 125 for a core charge if I send the old one back, I will have to see how much shipping is to see if its worth it.

yeah thats about right $$ wise.

mine took about 2 weeks to show up after I ordered, not bad.

I just kept my old box.   You will need to scavenge the hose fittings off your old box and put them on the new FF,  BTW

Good luck with the Roll Pin that connects the steering column to the box.  Its a bear sometimes.   Drift punch, then a Pin punch.
