    Guys,

    Do you know if the B body firewall is the same as the 1970 thru 1974 Challenger firewall? I thought I read that the firewall forward was the same on the E and B bodies.

    I believe they are different. They both have the lower pinchwelds in the same place. However they differ in how they marry up to the cowl section. The B body has an arc shaped pinch weld along the upper cowl side. The E-body is more smooth and the cowl is spot welded to the lower firewall. The wiper mount and master cylinder mount areas might be similar but the firewalls and cowl sections themselves are a good bit different.    As an example, here's a 70 charger from another thread. Kind've  says it all  ;D

       :iagree:      Is correct............you can cut out areas such as where the spot welds are in the same place......like if you have rust in your firewall, but the top or cowl area is larger in the B body cars............I got an extra B body firewall, cowl for my e body Challenger cause whre the drain is under the windshield wiper motor had gotten clogged up with leaves and began to rust slightly.......i cut it out and used section out of the B body............but NO the B body does not evenly match as weld in replacement

    yes to my knowledge they are the same. Of course AC cars are different than the non AC cars.

    Maybe a concidence but are you the guy with the convertible Challenger that emailed me today looking for a firewall and cowl?

    Trying to get ready to start the project after storing the car away for over 22 years. :eeksmall: Got into SCCA racing and the car was put away.

    LOOKING FOR A E BODY FIREWALL........

    Mike,
       Is the AC a lot different that the non AC? I found a non AC for around $500 plus shipping.
    Includes top section, firewall and the sides of the cowl including the panels where the door hinges mount.
       My car is an AC car. I am rotted though on the passenger side where the cowl meets the firewall at the seem. And the same on the driver side and around the booster.

    Yes there is a difference between the two.  The heater box is set up completely different as the non air car has a much smaller heater box than the air conditioning car.  If you are looking to keep the air conditioning in the car, you really need an air firewall. JMO  I'm not sure if a non air firewall can be modified to fit the air conditioning equipment easiely or not.   :dontknow:

    the firewalls themselves are similar enough in most respects; however, the attach areas for the AC type plenum is a little different.

    For the most part the extra evaporator holes could be cut in the heaer only firewall but the large 3-sided hole for the blower motor is unique to the AC car. Easy enought to cut the hole but it is flanged toward the engine compartment and would be tough to duplicate without some effort. On mine, we took the entire AC attach area off my old firewall and patched it into the new one. the drivers side fresh air duct is easy to plug. Either weld a plug or make a plate and attach with screws

    Hey Richie,
    If you have a non-AC firewall donor, I have the small section needed to "convert" the firewall into an A/C firewall.

    I'll add my 2 cents just to help clear up any confusion... E and 71-74 B body firewalls are different! Period! The cowls do not interchange, just don't even go there. Barracuda and Challenger are the same! Only A/C versus non-A/C is different! If you're putting in a new section, get the right one, don't try to modify one to the other, you're just going to butcher it up worse that way. There are plenty of firewall sections out there... just keep looking. I might even have one or two or know where one is.

    That's what I was thinking but I was waiting for someone to post pics.  Would be nice to have a more broad donor base to repair our Ebodies with but I was skeptical

    Obviously the one I posted isnt going to work at all  :grinno:
