I was browsing the Craigslist ads at 2:30 in the morning, where I saw a 383 R/T posting pop up 15 minutes prior. I fired off an email right away. A couple days later, I got email from the seller that he had gotten SO MANY replies, but because I was the 'first', he was giving me dibs on the car. Problem was timing, we could never find a time to meet, so a couple months' and about 50 emails later, the seller agreed to meet.

When I went to see the 383 R/T, I liked it and bought it. But when the seller said 'I have a plum crazy six pack shaker '70 R/T' I was immediately piqued.  :eekbig: I took the pink slip to the 383 car home, and thought about it some more, and it didn't take long. After a couple weeks discussing with the seller, I gave the 383 pink slip back, and bought the six pack. This was one of those things where he wanted to sell the 383 car first, then the six pack, so it was never advertised in the first place.

I referred the 383 to TropicalCats who at the time got burned on buying a burnt-orange R/T. And we all know he successfully brought the car home!

Whenever I tell my Mopar buddies about this, I always seem to get a stern look from them as if it was not fair I got this car the way I did, and that it should have been 'offered to the market'. Whatever!  :boxer:

I was looking for a 70 or 71 barracuda for about six months and wasn't really interested in getting a complete car.  Just a frame with a title would have been fine with me.  After several bad opportunities I found my 71 on eBay.  I had been down that road before on a really good car and was scared that this one would have the auction end early, so I took a pre-emptive strike and snagged her for $6700.  It gave me a good opportunity for a road trip from KC to Indianapolis to pick her up too.  :driving:  :dogpile:

On an old website called 'Heminet.com' It took about a month to ask questions, look at video, talk, e-mail etc., before I closed the deal

Found my car on Ebay, the car didn't meet the reserve price so I called the owner who needed to sell the car fast. I got a great deal on it, because the owner spent alot of time and money restoring it. The day it arrived I was blown away how nice it really was.

I wasnt really looking to buy a car when I saw the add for my 73 Barracuda because I already had my challenger.  It was listed in a local paper in the parts section.  73 barracuda parts car 318 3spd 1500 dollars.  It was also only up for a week then it was gone from the paper.  I called the guy up and he said the car was in his garage, but I couldnt see it because it was covered in stuff.  He said call back in a week.  I called back and he said it was still covered, but I could look at if I wanted but I wouldnt see much.  When I got there he was right it was covered in stuff.  All sorts of stuff from tools to a motorcycle engine.  He said nobody else had looked at it probably because they werent as persistant as I was.  Then about two weeks later he said he had it uncovered for the most part and the car saw the light of day for the first time in 10 years.     I gave him 1300 and I had it towed home.  Now he has two 71 Barracudas that he might be looking to sell so it might going through it all over again.

Joe found my Cuda on E-bay on a Tuesday.  I called the phone number in the ad and got the owners wife.  I spoke to the ower on Wed. and he told me if I went out to Ohio to see the car, the would end the auction early if I wanted it.  We left Friday night after work and got there Sat.  mornig.  I will never forget when he opened the garage door.  It made the long trip from NY to Ohio worthwhile. Nothing like seeing that grille as the garage door opened.  It was love at first sight!  It took us 12 hours to get home and we had tons of problems with the rented U-Haul trailer, but we finally made it.  We were awake from friday at 5:30am until we got home at 3:30am Sunday morning.  I still don't think I have recovered from that trip, LOL.

I found mine in a local paper.  He had it as the heading and in bold letters, which read "1973 Challenger $2,000.00".  Since this was right after I realized my Charger was far too gone for me to be capable of carrying out the proper restoration on that, I figured I may as well give the guy a call to see if it was still up for sale.....I scheduled a weekend to go check it out and after about two weeks of waiting (courtesy of the darn photo place taking so long to develop my pics) I had secured it.....The rest was history. :grinyes:

I don't have the pics of it when I first looked at it handy, so this one will have to do.

The best story that I have is of the 70 Cuda Convertible. I had been visiting my at-the-time girlfriend at college, spent the weekend and such, but she couldnt get off of work. So what is a Mopar freak to do on the weekends....Check out the local junkyards! I walked into this one near Gwinn, Michigan and right as I walked in was this damaged Cuda Convertible shell. I ended up taking the shell out of there on Mothers Day in 1986 for $100.00.....I still have the bill of sale from the junkyard! Sorry though, no pics of it....I am working on getting a scanner to do up some pics.

:coffee: :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

Had the Convertible fall into my lap, and thats how I got started on Mopars and away from GM stuff.   MoparMailingList helped me ID what I had, and caught the Mopar Bug.

Enjoyed (and still do) the convertible but I resigned myself that I would not touch the car unless needed and that I would keep it in Survivor status and merely act as a caretaker.  My opinion being that anyone can have a restored car, a great looking original is extra-extra special and is only original once.  The Sport Satellite is neat to have, but nervous driving around town, and was kinda boring not being able to make "mods" to it.

Few years later:
Had been looking for a 68 Charger for a while (keeping an eye on the market, etc) but I had to finish school first.
I wanted a complete car that was not restored, a survivor type of car, so that I didnt inherit someone elses nightmare.   Needed to be A/C, big block, and an Auto tranny, solid body and not Green.  Something that needed some mechanical work and that would hold its value, but that I could feel free to "work on" and hotrod a little and drive everyday for a few years.  I convinced myself that I could buy the car, enjoy it, and not take a depreciation hit later like I would a new sportscar and therefore was a smart spend of $$$.

I started getting serious about finding a Charger in 2001 when money and garage space became a reality.

My Dad had a 70 Challenger R/T from 70-75.  Ive never seen it though, not even a picture.  When I told him of my plans to get a Charger, he snickered at me and asked why I wanted a big clunky boat like that ?  I should get a Challenger, not a Charger, and he reserved the right to tease me mercilessly if I brought home a Charger.

I got to looking at the eBodies and they started to grow on me.    Made some bids on few Chargers and lost out on them, and one '70 Barracuda that was local and all restored but had a small block 360.  (while I was haggling over $400 through email on the car, it sold, in hindsight I probabably shoulda got it)

Watched for a few months and just couldnt quite find what I was looking for at a price I was willing to pay.  Then there was Challenger SE on eBay and it was almost everything I wanted.  Wasnt too sure about the Orange on Orange at the time.  The ad was terrible and so were the pictures so it didnt generate much traffic.  Didnt meet reserve so I started negotiating offline.   Got more and better pictures.  Found out the car was heavily optioned and as it turns out, the car was worth more in parts than it was as a whole.   Agreed to a price and terms and I sent 1/2 down.

then the fun started.......

Seller was playing Slick Used Car Sales Guy all of a sudden on me, but I saved all my emails from before and held him to his word and worked though the issues.  When I asked for a photocopy of the Title before I bought the plane tickets.... surprise...  the title was held by another family member and there was an issue over the estate.   Wanted me to come get the car and then he would send the title to me later.....   yeaaaaaaaahhhhh  riiiiiiiiggghht.    I declined and said I want the car, but Im not going to pick it up until you can send me a title.   Finally 2 months later, he was able to put a lien against the car, get the title, and then get the title signed to me.

Finally my little brother and I flew up to Portland Oregon.  We inspected it, paid the remainder, took possession of the car, and drove it home to Arizona.    In hind sight I should have had it transported but we made it home with a dirty carb and a fuel pump that blew its diagphragm somewhere in the last 20 miles of the 1300 mile trip.

When I got it home I found that it was more of a survivor and more optioned than I thought it was and I stuggled for the first couple of years about doing any mods that I couldnt unbolt.   Finally got over that (although I keep every part/nut/bolt that I have removed) and started having fun with the car, though I try hard to keep it looking like it came from the factory that way.

No regrets on the purchase yet, nor any wishes to trade for a different car.    Now that it has the a 440 and a Kiesler 5 Speed in it, what more could I want ?   :D

I dont see myself ever getting rid of either of them, intentionally.  I would like to get a 69 SuperBee or a 70 B body someday as another one to play with.

6 years ago we found an ad on the internet (don't remember which site).  Called the guy within an hour of the guy putting it up there.  2 days later we drove from Georgia to Indianapolis and bought her and trailored her home.  We drove her around for a year and then decided to do the full resto.
