Kid that owned my Chally pulled into my Dad's business (He owned a 4X4 performance shop). The kid was wanting tires, wheels, and a lift kit for his truck. The kid traded the 74 Chally and some money for the work on his truck.

I was into Mustangs and went to look at a 71 Mustang, but the body was full of bondo and the price was to high, but the guy had anumber of other cars that he brought up from down south. I saw the 70 Challenger R/T and bought it, that was 22 years ago.

The 71 I found on e-bay..was outbid and contacted the seller and told him if the high bidder did not follow thru I was still intrested in the car....about 2 months later I got a call that the other guy sent a deposit but never compleded the deal. I drove up to look at the car (about 2 hrs away from me), made him an offer and told him I'd have the $$ within a week. This was thousands less than what the auction had ended for, and even less than I'd bid...but the quick $$ got me the car.

Found the 74 on cars-on-line.com in December 04....guy who restored the car would not talk on the phone, so i did all the dealing with the wife. She told me they had LOTS of calls, but i was the first one who would agree to pick up the car personally, as she did not want someone to be disappointed with it if they just had it picked up by a transporter. Drove 460 miles one-way to get it, drove out and back within 20 hours, and had the pleasure of trailering thru a snowstorm for the first time in my life. Car was exactly as she had described it.

I used to go a visit my grandparents every other Sat evening and saw the Challenger (Red One) sitting in the yard a few blocks away from their house on our way home. After seeing it a few times with no tags and dead inspection I decided to stop and ask it they wanted to sell. The guys mom answered and said she didn't know if her son wanted to sell or not but took my #. Within a week he called and said I cold have it for 1100.  It had 750. dollars of new wheels and crager sst's on it so I snagged it. That was in May of 1981.  The other one(White) still under construction, was owned by a friend of a friend who wasn't really advertising it but heard of someone (me) who may be interested in it, and the guy's wife was about to have another baby so she wanted him to sell the car, even though I don't think he really wanted to.  I went and looked at it and made him an offer and he accepted. That was in Oct 2001.

1970 RT/SE - Hemmings Motor News 12/93 or thereabouts.

1973 Rallye - 04/03 while working out of town i took a late lunch; coming back to the job site i spotted the back end of a 72-74 Challenger outside a local auto repair shop. Turned around and stopped in to check it out; after pulling up i noticed that although mostly in a quickie primer job it was the same color scheme as my first 73 Challenger Rallye 318 car i had shortly after HS except this was a 340 model. Everything else was the same as my old one. I asked if he would consider selling and was countered with how much was i offering. He was looking for $3500; i offered $2500; two weeks later i had it for $3000. Named him Wag cause he's been wagging this dog since i got him home :banghead: :grinyes:

I decided about 1-1/2 year ago, I better try to find a '71 Barracuda (project) while I can still afford one. I watched eBay for a few months to see what they actually sold for. One came up with a starting price at $3500 & no reserve that wasn't too far away, so I went to look at it. After seeing it, I had a price in mind of what it was worth & just kept my fingers crossed hoping the people who "had to have it at any cost" were not on line, & out in the yard picking weeds or their noses, & not watching. The price stayed the same for days, but in the last few hours it climbed up to about $3800. I figured it might be worth around $4500, so I would bid that amount at the last minute. This auction ended on a Monday morning around 10 AM, so I was trying to watch the auction at work so I could see what was happening. With 15 minutes to spare, I thought it best to bid so I wouldn't miss out if the phone rang. It was one of the longest 15 minutes I can recall, but nobody else bid, so I got it for $4050.  ;D

Oh yeah, it was in CT.

I had always been interested in a getting another muscle car (Bought an old '69 Lemans convertible to restore back in '90 but sold it in '93 to go back to school.)  One day (back in 2003) I decided to pick up The Want Ad (New England publication.) and saw an ad for a '72 Challenger Rallye 340 that was in good shape up in New Hampshire.  My brother lived up in NH so I thought I could check it out 'cause I figured the car is in NH and my brother is in NH.  (I live in Massachusetts so I figure everthing is close by as the state is small.)  Little did I know, after driving an hour to my brother's house, it took almost another 2 hours to drive to see the car (NH is big, but not Texas big).  The car looked like it was in good shape and the previous owner took good care of it and kept it mostly original.  He even kept the original hand written dealer invoice.  It was the first week the ad ran.  The seller said the ad was supposed to run last week but they couldn't fit it in so I was one of the first people to see it.  He said since I called there were a lot of people wanting to look at it but I called first.  Impulsively I bought it that night for $4,000.  Haven't regretted it since.

1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

Neither the Charger nor the R/T were advertised. The Charger belonged to a long-time friend of my Dad's; we had told him years before that if he ever decided to sell it, that I was interested. He had put it up on blocks in his yard, where it sat for 5 years; his wife finally nagged him to the point of doing something with it.... either fix it up or sell it.... that he caved in and called me. A deal was struck and it was mine; that was all back in 1984. The R/T belonged to a guy that is the current owner of my old '67 GTX convertible; I had approached him several times about buying that back, but he wasn't interested in selling it. The conversation then went something like...."but I do have this '67 R/T convertible I'd consider selling....." That was all it took, and last year I bought it.
