    thats precisely why, in my opinion, they shouldnt have called it a charger.  people who like the original chargers probably wont like this one, and the people who do buy it probably wont care about the originals.  all the name did was show that they are willing to turn their back on their heritage.  but i guess business is business.

    all in all id say its an ok looking car that i think would make a good driver.  my daily is a beat to hell 91 caddy with 170k on the clock so my standards arent that high.  i just dont like trying to make a car into something its not.

    The "progress" pic of the "new general" were interesting, at least the trash bag in the trunk was appropriate............RIGHT ON ! ! That does pretty much sums it up.lol.

      I was at my streetside mailbox this afternoon when one of my elderly neighbors pulls up to chat for a couple of minutes. He nods towards my 73 under the Hillbilly Garage (blue tarp) and asks "Is that one of those Dukes of Hazard Chargers?"  No, but thank you, sir   :beer:

    Andrew,

    Saw them in person.  Between Carlisle and the Nats, I've seen a couple un-smashed cars from the show.  At a small town Chrysler dealer in St. Mary's OH I saw the one they repainted some awful greenish blue for a later episode.  Believe me, there's little chance of that one being restored.

    I know which one you are referring to as well.  I'm not some DCX nuthugger... I have a 69 myself and the one you are referring to was the first general lee.  If you look at the vin tag you can see where they added "lee 1" to it.  The only reason it is still around is because of the large amount of cement in the trunk used as ballast when they jumped it.   It was found at a junk yard saved for only that reason.  The reason it was petty blue is because in a later episode it was supposed to be a "wrecked" petty car.  That of course was from when bo and luke were on the circuit. 

    The people who had the original chargers are the same guys buying the new ones.  Why?  Because they are older now and it's the type of car they are needing.  The car business is business.  As soon as people start paying high prices to a company for the "preservation" of the so-called heritage is when they will quit using their heritage to sell cars.  PErhaps you'd be happier if they stayed w/ a front-wheel drive v6 car? 

    Like it or not, it is what it is and us bickering about it changes nothing.  It will continue to sell well.  You can't hardly compare it to the mustang as Ford really hit a home run with that one.

    Sounds like we're talkin the same Lee.  It's hard to tell it's Petty blue as banged up and weathered as it is.  I don't remember if I took a pic of the VIN or not, I'll have to check.

    As for the "staying with a FWD V-6 car"  That'd be great, just don't call it a Charger.  :tongue:

    I've passed quite a few of the new mustangs and cobras and the biggest thing they have going for them is that when I first see them, I immediately know it's a mustang by the shape and layout of the rear.  As I pass them, it still looks like a mustang.  If DC would design a Cuda or Challenger on the Magnum platform with the same body lines as the E-Bodies, they'd sell a ton.

    I agree with ya pistol gripper, that would be sweet.  In my opinion, I think that they should not make a new cuda.  What would it be, a chrysler cuda?  dodge cuda?  Just wouldn't be right.  I say go with a challenger and do what ford did.  Make it hard to tell the difference from a distance.  I still have to take a double take on some of these new mustangs to tell the difference from the old.  Is there any pictures of what these cars may look like?  Concepts that people have drawn up?  I think I remember seeing a 'new aged cuda' and it looked pretty cool.

    Hi guys!  Sorry a little off topic but in the flavor of what was recently mentioned.  Wasn't too sure from the previous posts, but did you guys know that DC is planning a new Challenger for 2009?  My heart went into overdrive!  It's being resurrected in the way it began in the years before-to challenge the Mustang.  Check these sites:

    Supposedly it makes a difference.  I sent a letter to Dieter Zetsche (President of DC, or did he leave to go to Germany?) and one of his assistants called my house to let me know that she is forwarding my letter to the Outside Suggestion Office.   She said our opinions are definately important in the developement of their cars.  

    Let put in our $0.02 for the possible new Challenger (and maybe the next update to the Charger! ;) )

    I guess I'll chime in here although P.G. said it all perfectly IMO. Plain and simple Ford hit a home run with the new mustang. Sadly for DC it is "just business" to them because of the German influence. I am not getting my hopes to high for the 09 Challenger, probably be just another 4 door based off of whatever design stage they are at.

    You guys did weld the doors shut on that 06 Charger right?  :laughing:

    I don't care much for the new 06's either, but for what it's worth, I do think you guys did a pretty good job on that car...I can't believe you gutted it as far as you did! :eekbig:

    They did not weld the rear doors shut.  They simply shaved the handles off, and then put on automatic door openers on the key-fob.  Works pretty neat.  From a distance, it looks like a two door, (sort of) if you glance quick!

    As far as I know, this is the first car that they have done.  As far as ripping a brand new car completely apart anyway... :dontknow:
