Starter / bellhousing worries with 172 tooth flywheel?
« on: October 04, 2002 - 03:32:07 AM »
Hi,
Let me first thank all those outstanding individuals who have been a tremendous help on volunteering much needed info !!! This website rocks!
Ok, Here's what I have so far..... I'm gathering parts for my stroker motor and since my cranks an 8 bolt design, I got a 172 tooth 8 bolt flywheel. My question is,  can I use any big block bellhousing for a 4spd or do I have to use a special one? Also,  can I use the "regular" mini starter with this setup too? TIA

I checked into it. It seems that the big block bellhousing and starter will work fine with the 172 tooth flywheel.

Yea, I figured it was a stumper; everyone I asked didn't know until I read a few books on it. It takes the 11" clutch assy that was optional on the 440 HP too. :)
