Nuther Noob
« on: August 03, 2005 - 11:24:49 PM »
Hey all. Nuther noobie hear. I'm restoring a 68 Cuda right now. Hope to get the engine bay sprayed sat. and start the big assy next week some time. Probably take me a week to find all the parts!! :ack: Got out of hot rodding cars when I got married in 92 due to cost but now were doing pretty well and finally got back into them about 2 yrs. ago. Mopar being my choice of course growing up in a Mopar family. My uncle assembled some of the great ones we love so much in Fenton Mo from 64-80. Another uncle raced a 68 Cuda 340 S. My dad bought a 69 Charger (383 Auto)  new and did some street racing.

Some of you might recognize me from another board. That's were I found the link to this one.

I attached a pix of it before I did alot of work on it. Since then I've sandblasted all front suspension parts and por-15'd them. I removed the front clip and cut out all rust from the inner fenders and welded in new steel. It's close to being done like I said hopefully it will get sprayed Sat. The body isn't perfect but ain't too bad either. After I get it assembled and work the mechanical bugs out it's going to the body shop for a real nice paint job. Also have most chrome and aluminum trim restored to go on it then. Hopefully next summer we'll be cruising in style.

Couldn't have done it without my fantastic wifes help either. Heck she even painted some of the suspension parts and held the copper on the back side of the fender when I welded in the patches. What a gal!!

Thanks for all the replies and compliments. I hadn't seen one of these 60's FB Cuda's in yrs. until I ran accross this one in the back of the local Chrysler garage. The owner of the dealership owned it for 17 yrs. along with several other cars. Fell in love with it the minute I saw it. The body is very solid with real good looking 5 yr. old paint. The only exception was the place where the inner fenders overlap the firewall extension and the area right behind the upper control arms. Had to weld in new metal there. Just got it all welded together and filled and primed. Hopefully get it painted in the next week. All thanks to a couple of good buds that are much better at body work than me. The mechanical condition was another story. Completely disassembled the front suspension and blasted it and por-15 everything and replaced all bushings, ball joints, etc. Rebuilt the 360. Bored it .030 and stuck in new KB slugs, balanced it, Mild perf. cam, 340X heads with mild port work, Torker intake, headers, etc.  I'm going to rebuild the 727 too. Has a 8-3/4 with 4:10's. May have to go with a taller gear. We'll see. The interior needed quite a bit of attention. Have most of the parts rounded up. Hopefully have it on the road in 2-3 months. By the way the color is 90 Plymouth Laser Raspberry. Man is there some awesome looking cars on this site!!
