what to do?/ advice please
« on: August 05, 2005 - 03:25:36 PM »
well, to start i recently found a 72 baracuda listed for 4300.00,  318, at,ac, new head liner, carpet, seats in fair shape, all glass is good, hood solid, trunk lid solid, 72000 miles on odometer,  but, and theres always a but, needs right rear frame rail, trunk pan and ext's, right qtr, and housing, lright rocker, ft left inner fender and fender (all rot cases,  ibut floor pans are fair,  is all this sheet metal worth it to replace,  the seller wont budge on his price.  im looking for my first mopar since i sold my 68 rr several years ago,,  and a father/son proj  would be a good thing for me and my son.  he had a great time at carlisle.  any and all adviice is well taken,,  thanks

Have you seen all of this rot you have described?  Is this a car you have walked around and crawled under? Is the engine running?

I think the price may be a bit high for the amount of work you may have to do, But ( there it is again) it seems that e bodies are going up in price. So while its high today next year it may seem like a good price??? or reasonable anyhow. I guess its a matter of being patient and knowing when to jump in.

Are you going to be doing the body work and stuff?

Doug, that does sound a bit high for a 72 318 car in that much need of body work.  Do you have pics?

Run ,,,don't walk

That does seem like alot of work for the money.....

I just can't see it for a 318 car but maybe :-\

Too much $$$ for too much rot, IMHO. It is a 318 car, probably not especially well optioned, so I'd pass if it were me..... but it's not; only you can tell if it's worth it to you. Unless you can do a lot of the bodywork yourself, it's gonna suck your wallet dry!

360cuda, the red one  you posted here from cudaworld  has been off and on ebay several times over the last couple months.  also  as far as body work goes,, im set up to do most of it here in my shop,  and i have a friend that can paint it,  as far as an engine,, well  kinda have a big block in mind down the road, i think im gonna pass on the 72 and look at the 74 in pennsylvania. I showed my wife the pictures and she immediatly began singing the theme song from Sanford and son.

Just to throw my 2 pennies in here, I wouldn't touch it for that much if it had frame rot.  :grinno:

I'd stay away from any car with that much rust (unless it is exceptionally valuable).  You might try the guy in Minocqua, WI.  He has 3 western barracudas that are very clean and Minocqua is very close to the Michigan border.  The guy's name is Dave Elliot and his number is (715) 356-1335.
