Thinking About Selling the Challenger
« on: August 05, 2005 - 08:20:05 PM »
That's right even though I've only had it a couple of months I'm thinking of selling it simply because it's kind of expensive and I'm looking for a cheaper project. I'm thinking either a 318/340/360 (maybe) Dart Sport/Demon or Duster or a 71-72 Dodge Charger/Plymouth Satellite or maybe even a 73-74 Plymouth Road Runner so I'm just kind of thinking. Anyways, I'm thinking of selling my Challenger for $15,500 since I am including some goodies and the car has a lot of new parts on it. Tell me what you think:

71 Dodge Challenger.
This car was originally a 318 3-speed car & has been up graded to a 383 magnum & 727 auto car. It was a deputy model from what I was told , the rear windows don’t have any handles, there fixed in place. This car does not have any seat belts but it does have the bolt holes for them, I just haven’t installed any yet. I also have a center console and all the linkage for this car if your interested in it.
     .
“I have had this car for a year and have been fixing it up to sell it.”
Prior to me owning the vehicle, the following was done.
1    383 = Motor & 727=Trans were gone through, they both appear to be very strong. Also bored .010 over.
2    Body was painted and new quarters & fenders were put on, inner fenders & trunk pans are original, some rust was repaired.
3    All body bushings and front end parts were replaced, aligned and new brakes were done.
4    New head liner and carpet,(now there is some fading in carpet, no tears.)
5    New dash pad, tires, air shocks, gas tank, front shocks, B&M slap stick shifter.

Since I have owned it, I have done the following items.

1    Installed a new steering gear box & power steering pump.
2    Installed new gas tank seals and gaskets.
3    Installed a new Electric cooling fan and thermostat.
4    Installed a Edelbrock performer intake and 750 cfm 4-Barrel carb.
5    Installed a new w/washer pump & reservoir & a coolant overflow tank.
6    Installed 383 magnum exhaust manifolds & a new master cylinder.
7    Installed a new battery tray & brackets along with a new battery.
8    Installed a new hood insulation pad and a new trunk mat.
9    Installed a lot of new Rubber body parts that were needed, trunk, hood ect…
10    Installed new decals for trunk & under hood & new chrome kick sill plates.
11    I pulled the motor installed a new rear main seal, sand blasted the motor compartment and repainted, I completely detailed under motor compartment.
12    I had a glass company remove and re-glue both front and back glass.
13    I had a sure grip posi rear end installed with 355 gears.

Items that still need to be done, or aren’t perfect.

1    Bumpers should be re-chromed &  both side glasses have scratches or pitts.
2    Paint is starting to show some age, mostly because it was driven on some gravel, over all it still looks good with a wax job.
3    Has a old pioneer stereo and old slotted 14 inch rims.

What 04lbram has done since he has had the car. Put on new valve cover gaskets and valve covers, new Mopar Performance Coil and Ballast Resistor, new Diehard Gold Series Battery, new turn signal switch, new weather stripping for trunk, new rubber pad for the brake pedal and e-brake, new Voltage Regulator, I have seatbelts I bought but, haven't installed, I also have a set of 14" Rallye Rims to go with the car, I have a the console to go with the car along with the original shift linkage, new passenger side glass, and that's about all I can think of for now. So, does that seem right for the price? Also, have some extra weatherstripping and what not for the car?

The reason why I guess I have come to this is because well, no one has bought or show any interest toward my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 that I'm still trying to sell for $13,500 with only 33k miles on it for the past month or so. I just don't get it so in order to free up some money I'm thinking of letting the Chally go as bad as I hate to really. What do you folks think?

That line says it all. Take a moment and think about it. I spent alot of time and energy in looking for mine and now that I have it I can't imagine letting it go. I know it can be expensive but you do a little at a time at the pace of you and your wallet. With e bodies getting harder to find my will be with me for a long time to come.

There is alot to be said for finding a 70 or 71 A body Duster.........they are excellent in a number of ways.......great weight ratio........the cars are cheaper to find, the small blocks are plenty potent in these cars.   They are cheaper to rebuild in some ways.........and finally the A bodys ( I think) show alot of potential for growth in Value..........The E body and B body bigblock cars are expensive and becoming more so.    AS they continue to grow the lesser expensive and less seen A body cars will go upwards to............after all more people can afford to buy and restore a car where they wont have but $8,000 to $12,000 in................oh well thats my opinion.........best of luck

Well I used to have an A-Body or at least my Dad did. He picked up a 72 Dodge Dart Sport with a 73 mildly modified 340 small block. That car ran equal to what my big block Challenger is running. Too bad he didn't keep it because it wouldn't have taken much to get it running. Oh well anyways, I'm going to think about this long and hard.
