    yes , they actually used the same mechanism into 77or 78 in the Magnums etc

    So it is a detent? You can only shift into the next gear? Does this one pop back slightly as well? (Like the 70) :???:
    So if I am reading your previous post right, the only thing that changed in 1971-74 is the handle itself?  :D


    Sorry CP I am considering converting to the 71-74 handle so want to be 100% sure before I do.  :)

    correct , the shifter & handle is all that changed , all the linkage remains the same

    So just for reference you can shift from 1st to second and it WON'T go any further? Then 2nd to Drive and no further?

    it is  a ratchet shifter , so it only allows i gear at a time so yes it will shift to second from fist then you have to release it momentarily & push again & it will go to third & locks out of neutral until the button is pushed allowing it into N , once in N it can be shfited back & forth between N & D , you need to push the button to get to first which activates the ratchet again
