Boy do I feel dumb!
« on: August 07, 2005 - 04:20:19 AM »
I was out working on the `69 yesterday trying to free my sticking valve.I pulled the valve cover and rocker arm shaft, hooked up the air fitting in the spark plug hole and pulled the keepers and spring off the exhaust valve.I grabbed the end of the valve and released the air and guess what, not stuck. So I try the same with the intake and same thing, moving nice and free.So now I`m thinking the only thing left is a wiped cam lobe when my friend down the street stops by and asks about the wires being off one position.I know when I first did it the wires were correct starting with the rotor pointing to the front left intake bolt etc. but he got me to double-check anyway. So I start with # 1 and work around when I hit #5 and realize it is crossed with #7.DOH!!!I feel dumb but in a good way as I quickly threw things back together and fired it up and it runs great now!I am going to do the valve seals as it does still smoke when it starts but otherwise I have a decent running engine.  :grinyes:

That's not dumb, that's great you shared the information with us, if not we may be doing the same thing......

But I really doubt it!  :ack:  JK TRC!

If we don't share these things we may think might be a bit on the dumb side, others may suffer the same and may make much larger mistakes not knowing some of these little things. Thanks for sharing that with us!
