Watched the original Gone in sixty seconds.
« on: August 10, 2005 - 12:59:45 PM »
I've seen it before, so I desided to rent it again from Netflix. I think the writer/director was a big Ford fan, several Mopars were destoyed in this film, including two 73 Challengers, and I think a 73 Charger. They did have a orange 72 Cuda with a stupid big hood scoop sitting in a warehouse. They make a big deal about stealing a 73 Mustang, saying its the last of the Mustangs. Since the movie was made in 74 when Ford came out with the Mustang II that looked like a Pinto. :ack:
Even though the acting is really bad in the film, the stunts make up for it. Still better than the Nick Cage version.

You didn't Mike?  :???: :D I too MUCH prefer the original (like most movies). I own it on DVD and it is part of my car chase selection.  :guitar:

The car chase goes for 45 minutes (roughly). HEAPS of MoPars to the sides etc. Police cars are basically all MoPars.

Decent movie all round.

Definitely a movie where the cars were the stars. The acting is pretty bad, but it's still one of my favorites.

I too think the original is a great car scene movie, along with VP and several other old car movies.  I bought H.B. Halicki's first Gone in Sixty, didn't have luck finding the Junkman, but did manage to find the making of his second Gone in Sixty movie called "Gone in Sixty Seconds 2: Deadline Auto Theft. (how ironic that it truly was a deadly movie when the director/creator/actor H.B. was killed in the water tower scene. I still enjoy the newer car movies, but it's just something about the old ones that have something special to them...perhaps it's that most of the stunts were actually done in reality as opposed to CG (comp. graphics)  BTW: I just saw Stephen Spieldberg's "Duel" the other day on AMC and he drives a later '60's Plymouth Valiant while being chased by the crazed trucker.  Again, cheesy acting, but somewhat cool overall. :patriot:

All-American Muscle: 'Cudas and Challengers...Still the Elite and always will be.

Cool movie!  I can watch the original all the way through where as in the Nicholas Cage version I usually just watch the chase with Eleanor and I'm done.

I got this movie a 1-2 years ago in a double set with "The Junkman", wasn't expensive.

INTERESTING FACT: (Maybe not to some )

The car in the beginning in the insurance scam:  What year is it?  Here's what I dug up.

In the movie, the guy who buys the car states to the towtruck driver that it's a '73.  But it has no 5mph bumperettes but has the '73 grill.

Through the miracle of modern technology  ::), I used the pause button to get some interesting facts:

-The side marker lights are from a '70-'71 Challenger.
-The car being stripped that has been damaged :  has a big block engine (N/A in '73), distributor in the front.
-the manufacture date from the sticker on the side of the drivers door shows a manufature year as "1969", not sure of the month.
VIN#=JS23U0E114291.  Plug it into your VIN decoder.  You get 1970 Dodge Challenger, Special-R/T, 440 375hp 4BBL made in LA  Nice car!!!!

The car they stole to replace it:
-VIN#=JH23L0E142751.  Which comes out to 1970 Dodge Challenger, High Price Class, 383 290hp 2BBL made in LA

Also you see on the guys checklist that there's a 383 Magnum, drum brakes.  At this point the car DOES have the 5mph bumperettes.  Also the interior is of 1970 stuff, ie steering wheel, seats, etc.....

This was a peeve of mine when I noticed it.  I guess they wanted to make a '70 into a'73 to make it look new and update.  Not sure when the movie was made though.

Great reserch, I would think they wanted everyone to think they were destroying a new car. The movie was made in 1974.

I guess they couldn't use the Camaro trick like in Vanishing point.  Loooovvvve that movie!  Was that a real Hemi or did I read the actual cars were 383s or something?

The original VP had 3 440 cars with 4-speeds and one 383 with TF-727 which towed the Camaro to it's death.  :guitar:
